MECHANICAL TABULATION OF FOREST DATA

open access: yesThe Forestry Chronicle, 1940
The use of the Hollerith system, or mechanical tabulation, for recording forest statistics is not a new venture. However, the application of the method for such a purpose is not widespread. There are many important factors related to the use of the system which can only be brought out through actual experience. It is the object of this paper to relate

Genetic and Epigenetic Mechanisms of Longevity in Forest Trees

open access: yesInternational Journal of Molecular Sciences, 2023
Trees are unique in terms of development, sustainability and longevity. Some species have a record lifespan in the living world, reaching several millennia. The aim of this review is to summarize the available data on the genetic and epigenetic mechanisms of longevity in forest trees.

Advancing Research on Biomaterials and Biological Materials with Scanning Electron Microscopy under Environmental and Low Vacuum Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Herein, environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM) is discussed as a powerful extension of conventional SEM for life sciences. By combining high‐resolution imaging with variable pressure and humidity, ESEM allows the analysis of untreated biological materials, supports in situ monitoring of hydration‐driven changes, and advances the functional ...

Creation of Forest Cultures of Crimean Pine (Pinus pallasiana D. Don) on the Hilly Sands in the Steppe Zone of Russia

open access: yesЛесной журнал, 2023
Forest crop cultivation of Crimean pine (Pinus pallasiana D. Don) was implemented in 2009–2020 on sandy and sand included soils in the steppe zone of the European part of Russia. During the analysis of the reasons for the low efficiency of reforestation,

Development of Sustainable MgO–C Refractories Using MgO–C Recyclates and a Novel Eco‐Friendly Fructose–Tannin Binder Crosslinked With Citric Acid

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study develops sustainable MgO–C refractories using recycled materials and eco‐friendly fructose–tannin binders. The enhanced performance of citric acid as a cross‐linker and functional additives on mechanical and thermomechanical properties was examined. Characterization included strength tests, immersion trials, and microstructural and inclusion

Microstructure Evolution of a VMnFeCoNi High‐Entropy Alloy After Synthesis, Swaging, and Annealing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The synthesis and processing (rotary swaging and annealing) of the novel VMnFeCoNi alloy is investigated, alongside the estimation of the grain size effect on hardness. Analysis of a wide grain size range of recrystallized microstructures (12–210 µm) reveals a low annealing twin density.

Semliki Forest Virus Budding: Assay, Mechanisms, and Cholesterol Requirement [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Virology, 2000
ABSTRACT All enveloped viruses must bud through a cellular membrane in order to acquire their lipid bilayer, but little is known about this important stage in virus biogenesis. We have developed a quantitative biochemical assay to monitor the budding of Semliki Forest virus (SFV), an enveloped alphavirus that buds from the plasma membrane in ...
