Holling meets habitat selection: functional response of large herbivores revisited

open access: yesMovement Ecology, 2021
Background Holling (Can Entomol 91(5):293–320, 1959) was the first to describe a functional response between a predator’s consumption-rate and the density of its prey.

Priority areas for wintering waterbirds and the need to remove Spartina along Zhejiang coast

open access: yesGlobal Ecology and Conservation
The East Asian-Australasian Flyway (EAAF) is home to over 50 million migratory waterbirds, of which 32 are globally threatened and 19 are near-threatened.

Development and Testing of an Innovative Model for Managing Ecosystems in the Rački Ribniki–Požeg Landscape Park

open access: yesLand
The article presents the process of designing and testing an ecosystem-based governance model (EBGM). The EBGM is an innovative and highly participatory approach to addressing management challenges in protected areas. The implementation of the EBGM makes

Humans rather than Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx) shape ungulate browsing patterns in a temperate forest

open access: yesEcosphere, 2022
The recolonization of human‐dominated landscapes by large carnivores has been followed with considerable scientific interest; however, little is known about their interactive effect on ungulate foraging behavior.

Ultrahigh Water Permeance of Reduced Graphene Oxide Membrane for Radioactive Liquid Waste Treatment

open access: yesMembranes, 2021
Membrane methods exhibit great potential for application in radioactive liquid waste treatment. In this work, we prepared a reduced graphene oxide using the amino-hydrothermal method (AH-rGO) that exhibited effective rejection rates of 99.9% for CoCl2 ...

Monitoring Canada's forests: The National Forest Inventory

open access: yesThe Forestry Chronicle, 2005
A new national forest inventory is being installed in Canada. For the last 20 years, Canada's forest inventory has been a compilation of inventory data from across the country. Although this method has a number of advantages, it lacks information about the nature and rate of changes to the resource, and does not permit projections or forecasts.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Migratory Connectivity of Zhejiang, with a Critical Stopover in East Asian-Australasian Flyway, Based on Recovery Data

open access: yesAnimals
Understanding migratory routes is crucial for the conservation of birds and their habitats. Zhejiang is a crucial stopover and wintering area for birds in the East Asian–Australasian Flyway; however, detailed information on this area, and particularly on

Correlation of the differential expression of PIK3R1 and its spliced variant, p55α, in pan‐cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PIK3R1 undergoes alternative splicing to generate the isoforms, p85α and p55α. By combining large patient datasets with laboratory experiments, we show that PIK3R1 spliced variants shape cancer behavior. While tumors lose the protective p85α isoform, p55α is overexpressed, changes linked to poorer survival and more pronounced in African American ...

Combined Use of Spectral and Structural Features for Improved Early Detection of Pine Shoot Beetle Attacks in Yunnan Pines

open access: yesRemote Sensing
The long-lasting outbreak of the pine shoot beetle (PSB, Tomicus spp.) threatens forest ecological security. Effective monitoring is urgently needed for the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) of this pest.
