Effects of thinning on forest structure and composition in the Wungong catchment, Western Australia

open access: yes, 2012
The focus of jarrah (Eucalyptus marginata Donn ex. Smith) forest management in past decades has been changing in response to forest management practices of the day, interests and needs of the forest users and more recently a changing climate.

Mucocutaneous Disease Activity and Damage Accrual in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: Analyses From the Asia‐Pacific Lupus Collaboration Longitudinal Cohort Study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective This research article aims to describe the prevalence, associations, and health‐related quality of life (HRQoL) impact of mucocutaneous features of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Methods Data from the Asia‐Pacific Lupus Collaboration cohort were analyzed (2013–2021).

Canopy structural modeling using object-oriented image classification and laser scanning

open access: yes, 2008
A terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) experiment was carried out in the EAGLE 2006 campaign to characterize and model the canopy structure of the Speulderbos forest. Semi-variogram analysis was used to describe spatial variability of the surface.

Topography, Diversity, and Forest Structure Attributes Drive Aboveground Carbon Storage in Different Forest Types in Northeast China

open access: yes, 2022
Forests regulate air quality and respond to climate change by storing carbon. Assessing the driving factors of forest aboveground carbon (AGC) storage is of great importance for forest management.

Artificial Intelligence in Systemic Sclerosis: Clinical Applications, Challenges, and Future Directions

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a rare autoimmune disease defined by immune dysregulation, vasculopathy, and progressive fibrosis of the skin and internal organs. Despite advances in care, major complications such as interstitial lung disease (ILD) and myocardial involvement remain the leading causes of morbidity and mortality.

Effects of experimental fires on litter decomposition in a seasonally dry Amazonian forest. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Litter decomposition is a fundamental process for nutrient cycling but we have a limited understanding of this process in disturbed tropical forests. We studied litter decomposition over a 10-mo period in a seasonally dry Amazon forest in Mato Grosso ...

Do Silviculture and Forest Management Affect the Genetic Diversity and Structure of Long-Impacted Forest Tree Populations?

open access: yes, 2018
The consequences of silviculture and management on the genetic variation and structure of long-impacted populations of forest tree are reviewed assessed and discussed, using Mediterranean forests as a working paradigm.

Zein‐Based Adhesives: Sustainable Extraction and Application in Bioadhesive Technologies

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Zein is extracted from corn gluten meal using a simple and scalable process with high yield (~90%). The resulting protein is applied in bioadhesives modified with Ca2+ and Fe3+ ions, exhibiting substrate‐dependent adhesion. The findings demonstrate competitive bonding performance and highlight the role of ionic interactions in tuning adhesion ...

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.
