Influence of environmental factors on the spatial distribution and diversity of forest soil in Latvia [PDF]

open access: yesEstonian Journal of Earth Sciences, 2012
This study was carried out to determine the spatial relationships between environmental factors (Quaternary deposits, topographical situation, land cover, forest site types, tree species, soil texture) and soil groups, and their prefix qualifiers ...

Bird Distribution in Relation to Forest Types in Gwangneung Forest [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Forest and Environmental Science, 2012
This study was conducted from February 2005 to October 2007 to investigate bird distribution at three types of forest (mixed, broadleaf and coniferous) in Gwangneung forest. As a result, more birds used mixed forests than broodleaf and coniferous forest. During forest was opened to public, more birds also frequently used mixed forests.

Tumor B‐cell infiltration in platinum‐treated advanced muscle‐invasive urothelial carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Bladder tumors with higher pretreatment memory B‐cell infiltration were linked to longer survival after cisplatin chemotherapy, but not carboplatin. These tumors also showed more organized immune structures (tertiary lymphoid structures) and a shared pro‐inflammatory B‐cell‐rich community, suggesting that memory B cells may help identify patients most ...

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Major characteristics of mixed fir and beech virgin forests in the National park Biogradska Gora in Montenegro [PDF]

open access: yesGlasnik Šumarskog Fakulteta: Univerzitet u Beogradu, 2011
In order to manage forest ecosystems at a sufficiently high biodiversity level it is necessary to study the ecological, structural and production characteristics of virgin forests.

Species distribution and forest type mapping in Mexico [PDF]

open access: yes2009 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2009
The study analyzed the potential of multi-temporal satellite remote sensing data (Terra-MODIS) for phenological studies in Mexico. Within two conceptually and methodologically independent approaches, we analyzed vegetation index data to continuously predict species' occurrence and linked these predictions to a satellite data based land cover map of ...

Derivation and characterization of retinal pigment epithelium from urine‐derived iPSCs

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Age‐related macular degeneration causes vision loss via RPE dysfunction and loss. Traditional iPSC therapies rely on invasive biopsies, limiting scalability. Here, we utilize urine‐derived stem cells as an accessible source to generate u‐iPSCs, successfully differentiated into pigmented RPE. This “Urine‐to‐Retina” platform provides a promising path for
