Confusion Matrix Analysis for Form Perception
Human Factors: The Journal of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, 1967The Constant-Ratio Rule (CRR), an empirical technique for analysis of confusion matrices, was developed for use in predicting intelligibility of speech syllables. This study investigated the validity of the rule when applied to the data from experiments on visual form perception.

Force of Symmetry in Form Perception
The American Journal of Psychology, 1984Many objects, natural and manufactured, have at least one axis of symmetry; thus, the detection of symmetry could facilitate the detection and representation of objects. Literature is reviewed that supports the notion that humans have effective and efficient symmetry-detection ability.

Form Perception: Experience and Explanations
1992Abstract My concern in this chapter is the perception or experience of visual form, and with the kinds of proposals that have been offered to explain the phenomena of form perception. Such explanations fall in two general classes: one which involves (unconscious) inference-like or computational processes, based on premises about the ...

The perception of form and motion
Current Opinion in Neurobiology, 1993Although form and motion are two distinct aspects of visual processing, they do not start as separate entities in the visual system. Early analyses extract discontinuities in various image attributes and these can trace the outline of a form. When displaced, the same image features can give rise to impressions of motion. Recent work has overturned many

Physiognomic Form Perception: Mature or Immature?
Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1977The hypothesis that physiognomic perception, rather than being an immature mode, characterizing, in particular, children, primitives, and schizophrenics, is, instead, a basic mode, was tested. Children of both Eastern and Western parentage in Grades 3, 5, 6, and 11 were given the Physiognomic Form Perception Test, an instrument specially developed for

Form Perception: Dimensions of Pattern Reproduction
Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1971Results from size and jaggedness judgments of 15 polygons by 17 Ss indicate that judgments were based on two-feature measures of 8-sided polygons (area and the ratio of perimeter to area, p < .01). One group of 12 Ss was required to draw 15 polygons freehand and was given 15 min. to complete the task.
