Female Starlings With Experimentally Impaired Pre‐Laying Condition Produce Smaller But Vitamin A Richer Eggs

We experimentally impaired the pre‐laying condition of female starlings by clipping two flight feathers per wing at the beginning of the breeding season, before egg laying. Impaired females laid the same number of eggs as control females, but smaller, and with higher levels of yolk vitamin A.

Abstract Freshwater bivalves are globally distributed, diverse, and common in benthic communities. Many taxa, particularly in the most species‐rich order, Unionida, are declining due to anthropogenic stressors, while a small number of non‐native species have become increasingly abundant and widespread, commonly replacing native bivalve assemblages.

A Type I Hyperbolic Metamaterial Driven by Phonons on ZnO

This article reports the first realization of a phonon‐driven type I hyperbolic metamaterial with ZnO/(Zn,Mg)O heterostructures. By adjusting the Mg content and layer thickness ratio, it establishes a clear framework for achieving and tuning the type I hyperbolic region via phonon resonances.
