MAP prediction of formant frequencies and voicing class from MFCC vectors in noise

open access: yesSpeech Communication, 2006
Novel methods are presented for predicting formant frequencies and voicing class from mel-frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCCs). It is shown how Gaussian mixture models (GMMs) can be used to model the relationship between formant frequencies and MFCCs.

Formant Frequencies of Malay Vowels Produced by Malay Children Aged Between 7 and 12 Years

open access: yesJournal of Voice, 2012
The formant frequencies of Malaysian Malay children have not been well studied. This article investigates the first four formant frequencies of sustained vowels in 360 Malay children aged between 7 and 12 years using acoustical analysis. Generally, Malay

Formant frequency estimation in noise

2004 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 2004
This paper addresses the problem of formant frequency estimation of speech signals corrupted by colored noise. The spectrum is sequentially segmented into K segments so that each segment contains a single formant. A segmentation metric based on Wiener filter theory is proposed for determining the segment boundaries. A peak-picking algorithm is used for

Formant frequencies in Middle Eastern singers

American Journal of Otolaryngology, 2008
This work was conducted to describe the formant frequencies in a group of Middle Eastern singers and to look for the presence of the singer's formant described in operatic singers.A total of 13 Middle Eastern singers were enrolled in this study. There were 5 men and 8 women.Descriptive analysis was performed to report the various formants (F1, F2, F3 ...

Formant Frequencies of Stuttered and Fluent Vowels

Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research, 1987
The formant frequencies of 15 adult stutterers' fluent and disfluent vowels and the formant frequencies of stutterers' and nonstutterers' fluent vowels were compared in an F1-F2 vowel space and in a normalized F1-F2 vowel space. The results indicated that differences in formant frequencies observed between the stutterers' and nonstutterers' vowels can ...

Formant Frequency Regions of Polish Vowels

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1967
Frequency regions of the first two formants of Polish vowels are given. The method included specification of these formants by spectral analysis of spoken vowels and by perceptual evaluation of synthetic vocalic stimuli.

A method for glottal formant frequency estimation

Interspeech 2004, 2004
This study presents a method for estimation of glottal formant frequency (Fg) from speech signals. Our method is based on zeros of z-transform decomposition of speech spectra into two spectra : glottal flow dominated spectrum and vocal tract dominated spectrum. Peak picking is performed on the amplitude spectrum of the glottal flow dominated part.

Tracking of Speech Formant Frequencies

2006 IEEE 14th Signal Processing and Communications Applications, 2006
This study is about tracking of formant frequencies using Kalman filtering. Assuming that the formant frequencies are changing in time slowly, it is possible to model their behaviors as outputs of a dynamic system and then track them using Kalman filtering approach.
