Switching From Acceptor to FRET Donor: How the Organic Solar Cell Architecture Can Change the Role of a Chromophore

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The non‐fullerene acceptor o‐IDT‐BT‐DCV is used in both binary and ternary blends to investigate the role that it plays in each device architecture. The charge generation pathways are found to differ between the binary and ternary blends with o‐IDT‐BT‐DCV becoming a second donor in the ternary blend.

Recurrent planetesimal formation in an outer part of the early solar system

open access: yesScientific Reports
The formation of planets in our solar system encompassed various stages of accretion of planetesimals that formed in the protoplanetary disk within the first few million years at different distances to the sun.

New insight into the Solar System's transition disk phase provided by the unusual meteorite Isheyevo [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Many aspects of planet formation are controlled by the amount of gas remaining in the natal protoplanetary disk (PPDs). Infrared observations show that PPDs undergo a transition stage at several Myr, during which gas densities are reduced. Our Solar System would have experienced such a stage.

Numerical two-dimensional calculations of the formation of the solar nebula [PDF]

open access: yes
Numerical two dimensional calculations of the formation of the solar nebula are presented. The following subject areas are covered: (1) observational constraints of the properties of the initial solar nebula; (2) the physical problem; (3) review if two ...

Interfacial Contact Engineering Enables Giant‐Performance Semiconductor Nanomembrane Optoelectronic Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work investigates modifying interfacial contacts in realizing giant‐performance semiconductor nanomembrane optoelectronics. Strategies, including surface reaction and buffer layer work‐function modulation, are explored to boost the Schottky barrier. An emerging material of YbOx is utilized for near‐ideal Ohmic contact.

Spitzer's Solar System Science Legacy: Studies of the Relics of Solar System Formation & Evolution. Part 1 - Comets, Centaurs, & Kuiper Belt Objects [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
In its 16 years of scientific measurements, the Spitzer Space Telescope performed a number of ground breaking and key infrared measurements of Solar System objects near and far. Targets ranged from the smallest planetesimals to the giant planets, and have helped us reform our understanding of these objects while also laying the groundwork for future ...

Shrinking orbits in hierarchical quadruple star systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The distribution of the inner orbital periods of solar-type main-sequence (MS) triple star systems is known to be peaked at a few days, and this has been attributed to tidal evolution combined with eccentricity excitation due to Lidov-Kozai oscillations. Solar-type MS quadruple star systems also show peaks in their inner orbital period distributions at

Studies of extra-solar OORT clouds and the Kuiper disk [PDF]

open access: yes
This is the second report for NAGW-3023, Studies of Extra-Solar Oort Clouds and the Kuiper Disk. We are conducting research designed to enhance our understanding of the evolution and detectability of comet clouds and disks.

Shape‐Stabilization of Phase Change Materials with Carbon‐Conscious Poly(hydroxy)Urethane Foams

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Poly(hydroxy)urethane (PHU) foam, derivable from carbon dioxide (CO2) and bio‐based resources, is a promising material platform for shape‐stabilizing phase change materials (PCMs). We demonstrate the encapsulation of both paraffins and calcium chloride hexahydrate in PHU foam, achieving 48 stable thermal cycles by introducing 5 wt.% barium carbonate ...

Presolar grains [PDF]

open access: yes
The chemical makeup of our solar system is a reflection of Galactic chemical evolution in the local interstellar medium (ISM) over the past ~9 Ga before the formation of the solar system. Although the incorporated ISM dust was mostly destroyed during the solar system formation, a small fraction of the ISM dust, known as presolar grains, is preserved in
