Beyond Hard Parts: Metabarcoding Advances Dietary Resolution in Threatened Amazonian Elasmobranchs

open access: yesAquatic Conservation: Marine and Freshwater Ecosystems, Volume 36, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Elasmobranchs are highly vulnerable and are considered one of the most threatened vertebrates worldwide. Insights into diet can improve conservation measures. The bias of traditional morphological methods towards taxa with distinctive hard parts makes metabarcoding analysis a complementary tool to assess diet composition. Here, we analysed the

Wasp and Ant Nests: Who Really Protects Whom? New Insights From Amazonian Forests

open access: yesAustral Ecology, Volume 51, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Studies of animal behaviour are often biased towards species that are large‐bodied or have broad geographic ranges, as these are easier to observe in nature. Consequently, our understanding of behavioural ecology is shaped by such biases, even though these studies have provided important insights.

Environmental Contamination Affects Associated Bacterial Communities in a Neotropical Arboreal Ant

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 58, Issue 3, May 2026.
Environmental stressors such as contamination from mining tailings can alter microbial communities associated with insects, including social ants. Ants, as widespread and ecologically influential insects with stable microbial associations, offer a relevant model to examine these effects.

Microhabitat Variation in Feeding Places Shape Ant‐Hemiptera Interactions Within Cocoa Agroecosystems

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 58, Issue 3, May 2026.
Ant‐hemipteran mutualistic networks in cocoa crops maintain a stable structural organization across different microhabitats (flowers, leaves, and fruits) and management types. This stability is not intrinsic to the network, but rather an emergent result of the behavior of a few generalist ant species acting as structural buffers.

Risk Profiles in Hospitalized Adults Based on Functional Capacity, Pressure Injury Risk, and Fall Risk: A Cluster and Multiple Correspondence Analysis

open access: yesJournal of Nursing Scholarship, Volume 58, Issue 3, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Patient safety is a global priority, as adverse events represent the 14th leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Among the most common complications in hospitalized adults are functional decline, pressure injuries, and falls, all of which increase hospital stays, healthcare costs, and mortality. Although these risks are

Proposta de atividade de campo para o ensino de biodiversidade usando formigas como modelo = A field work proposal for teaching biodiversity using ants as a model

open access: yesActa Scientiarum. Education, 2010
As atividades de campo continuam sendo um caminho árduo para o professor, entretanto, elas representam um dos principais passos para o estudo da biodiversidade. Nosso país é considerado megadiverso, mas ensinar sobre esse tema é complexo.
