A review and meta‐analysis of host‐plant selection by lepidopteran larvae: no evidence of diet breadth constraints on larval decision‐making

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Information processing by herbivorous insects can impair the accuracy of decision‐making during host‐plant selection. Consequently, insects with a narrower diet breadth are expected to be more accurate decision‐makers, as they cope with a smaller set of relevant stimuli.

Spina bifida as a multifactorial birth defect: Risk factors and genetic underpinnings

open access: yesPediatric Discovery, EarlyView.
Abstract Spina bifida is a birth defect resulting from abnormal embryonic development of the neural tube. Though spina bifida is divided into several subtypes, myelomeningocele—the most severe form of spina bifida often associated with a markedly diminished quality of life—accounts for a significant portion of cases.

But does it taste good? A plea to consider the importance of flavor in managing plant genetic resources

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Crop genetic resources, particularly seeds held in ex situ germplasm collections, have enormous value in breeding climate‐resilient crops. Much of this value accrues from information associated with germplasm accessions. Here, we argue that flavor, culinary attributes, and other traditional ecological knowledge (TEK) are important characteristics ...
