gtk-fortran: a GTK / Fortran binding

2020
The gtk-fortran binding (https://github.com/vmagnin/gtk-fortran/wiki), developed since 2011, is based on the ISO_C_BINDING module, introduced in the Fortran 2003 standard, which is used to interface fortran programs with the functions of the GTK libraries (mainly written in C).

Fortran

Communications of the ACM, 1963
“The FORTRAN language is intended to be capable of expressing any problem of numerical computation. In particular, it deals easily with problems containing large sets of formulae and many variables, and it permits any variable to have up to three independent subscripts. However, for problems in which machine words have a logical rather than a numerical

Fortran 77

Communications of the ACM, 1978
There is a new standard Fortran. The official title is “American National Standard Programming Language Fortran, X3.9-1978,” but it is more commonly referred to as “Fortran 77,” since its development was completed in 1977. It replaces the Fortran standard designated X3.9-1966.

Coroutines in FORTRAN

ACM SIGPLAN Notices, 1978
A method is described for using coroutines within the strict confines of ANSI FORTRAN. A FORTRAN preprocessor that has been implemented to transform FORTRAN programs, written as if coroutines were allowed, to standard ANSI FORTRAN programs is also described.

On evolution of FORTRAN

ACM SIGPLAN Notices, 1984
The GTE Government Systems Corporation, Western Division is engaged in real time and other application software development. Clearly we need the best available tools with which to do the job consistent with our customer contraints. For a variety of reasons, I believe that FORTRAN will remain an important programming tool.

FORTRAN

Technologies logicielles Architectures des systèmes, 1981
A new FORTRAN service course has been developed and is being pilot-tested. The course was designed to reduce the number of redundant FORTRAN courses, make more efficient use of faculty time, and provide more consistent and predictable learning outcomes for down-stream courses while improving faculty and student satisfaction.

The FORTRAN Language

ACM SIGPLAN Notices, 1978
The FORTRAN language was intended to be a vehicle for expressing scientific and mathematical computation, while allowing efficient object code to be produced. Since there was an emphasis on scientific computation in FORTRAN and FORTRAN II, little provision was made for heterogeneous data structures.

Reading Fortran

ACM SIGCSE Bulletin, 1976
A new type of computer science service course is described which was developed in response to a request from several natural science departments. The goal of the course is to give advanced students the ability to read and understand existing Fortran programs. An evaluation of the course is also given.

Fortran tools

Proceedings of the SIGNUM Conference on the Programming Environment for Development of Numerical Software on -, 1978
This paper outlines an integrated set of Fortran tools that are commercially available. The basic purpose of various tools is summarized and their economic impact highlighted. The areas addressed by these tools include: code auditing, error detection, program portability, program instrumentation, documentation, clerical aids and quality assurance.

The future of fortran

Computing in Science & Engineering, 2003
Fortran has been with us for a long time. It was the first computer language to be standardized (in 1966) and has since been revised three times (Fortran 77, Fortran 90, and Fortran 95). The Fortran 90 revision was major; those of Fortran 77 and Fortran 95 were relatively minor. Almost all compilers now implement Fortran 95.
