Baum's forward-backward algorithm revisited
Pattern Recognition Letters, 1985Summary: In this note, we examine the forward-backward algorithm from the computational viewpoint of the underflow problem inherent in \textit{L. E. Baum}'s original formulation [An inequality and associated maximization technique in statistical estimation for probabilistic functions of Markov processes. Inequalities III, Proc.

The forward-backward search algorithm
[Proceedings] ICASSP 91: 1991 International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 1991The authors introduce a technique that greatly speeds up expensive time-synchronous beam searches in speech recognition. The algorithm is called the forward-backward search and is mathematically related to the Baum-Welch forward-backward training algorithm. It uses a simplified forward pass followed by a detailed backward search. The information stored

A New Forward Backward Auction Algorithm
1998In this paper we consider the problem of finding a shortest path from a source node to a fixed target node on a directed graph. An algorithm which improves the convergence of the known forward-backward auction algorithm is presented. Numerical examples are reported in order to show the effectiveness of the method.

Using the framework of the message-passing algorithm, Section 1. introduces the forward-backward algorithm (FBA) for decoding on trellises, in which messages flow in both directions along a linear graph. This algorithm can be used for the decoding of channels with memory and convolutional codes. Section 2. describes some common configurations for turbo

Forward-backward pursuit algorithm for Cerenkov luminescence tomography
2016 38th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBC), 2016Cerenkov luminescence tomography (CLT) is a powerful imaging technique that allows dynamically and three-dimensionally resolving the metabolic process of radiopharmaceuticals. It uses optical method to detect radiopharmaceuticals with low cost and high sensitivity.
