Forward error correction with RaptorQ Code on embedded systems

2011 IEEE 54th International Midwest Symposium on Circuits and Systems (MWSCAS), 2011
Raptor code, a member of the rateless fountain codes family, has been a preferred technology for the forward error correction (FEC) at the application layer. It is used by the 3rd Generation Partnership Program (3GPP) Multimedia Broadcast/Multicast Service (MBMS) and Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB-H) standards for multimedia broadcast and content ...

Punctured coding for forward error correction in satellite communications

Journal of the Institution of Electronic and Radio Engineers, 1988
It is attractive to be able to alter the coding rate, and hence the error correcting power, of a forward error correcting coder/decoder (codec) to provide a codec whose error correction capability can be matched to the requirements of the data communication system in which it is used.

An efficient software implementation of a forward error correcting code

Telecommunication Systems, 1997
Today, Forward Error-Correcting (FEC) codes are mainly implemented in hardware, and many believe that their complexity prohibit their software implementation. This paper presents in detail how the performances of a software implementantion can be significantly improved.

Transmission Errors and Forward Error Correction in Embedded Differential Pulse Code Modulation

Bell System Technical Journal, 1983
We have derived formulas for the combined effects of quantization and transmission errors on the performance of embedded Differential Pulse Code Modulation (DPCM), a source code that can be used for variable-bit-rate speech transmission. Our analysis is more general and more precise than previous work on transmission errors in digital communication of ...

Efficient forward error correction coding for free-space optical communications

SPIE Proceedings, 2004
Atmospheric turbulence is known as the major channel impairment for outdoor long-distance free space optical communication. This paper investigates the performance of high-rate fast-speed Reed-Solomon (RS) codes on log-normal fading FSOC channels. The cases where the channel state information is available and unavailable to the decoder are investigated.
