Posterior fossa measurements II. Size of the posterior fossa in myelomeningocele

Pediatric Radiology, 1978
In seven myelomeningocele patients, six were operated upon while in one severe case no surgery was performed. The posterior fossa areas were measured and expressed by the posterior fossa ratio method. In two shunted patients both ratios were primarily below the lowest normal limit, but following shunt operation the ratios become normal.

Arachnoid Cysts of the Posterior Fossa

Neurosurgery, 1986
Abstract Arachnoid cysts of the posterior fossa are an uncommon clinical entity. The two cases presented in this review were evaluated without vertebral angiography. We think that the development of magnetic resonance imaging may obviate the need for angiography in selected cases.

Posterior Fossa Tumors

Neurosurgery Clinics of North America, 1992
Cerebellar and fourth ventricle tumors are usually associated with hydrocephalus, which is now treated with ventriculostomy and tumor removal so that permanent shunts are needed in only one third of children. Complete removals decrease the recurrence rate of cerebellar astrocytomas and ependymomas.

Posterior Fossa

DeckerMed Anesthesiology, 2019
The posterior fossa houses essential brainstem nuclei, cranial nerves, cerebral vasculature, and mechanisms for cerebrospinal fluid drainage. Anesthetic considerations for posterior fossa surgery include thorough preoperative evaluation, intraoperative monitoring, and anesthetic planning to allow neurophysiological monitoring.

Posterior Fossa Malformations and Epilepsy

Journal of Child Neurology, 1999
The association between posterior fossa malformations and epilepsy is rarely reported in the literature. We describe 54 cases with posterior fossa malformations, according to embryogenesis classification, divided into two groups on the basis of presence or absence of epilepsy.

Posterior fossa epidermoid cysts

Acta Neurochirurgica, 1987
The authors present their clinical and surgical experience with 18 posterior fossa cholesteatomas, including three cases with atypical CT scan appearances that corresponded to calcification, haemorrhage or malignant change into an epidermoid carcinoma, respectively.

EXTRADURAL HEMATOMAS OF THE POSTERIOR FOSSA

Archives of Surgery, 1950
MANY excellent articles 1 have adequately described the entity of extradural hematoma of the cerebral convexity. The symptom complex, surgical experience and pathology have been so succinctly and frequently commented on as to make the lesion familiar to all who have a ready acquaintance with craniocerebral injuries.

Haemangioblastomas of the posterior cranial fossa

Acta Neurochirurgica, 1984
The clinical features, diagnostic and surgical aspects of haemangioblastoma of the posterior cranial fossa are discussed in the light of a series of 61 personal cases and the published data. CT and vertebral angiography are compared as diagnostic tools.

Posterior Fossa Syndrome

1997
Transient mutism is a well-recognized sequela of posterior fossa tumor resection in children. A recent review from our institution indicated that 12 of 142 children undergoing such procedures (8.5%) exhibited transient speech impairment, the largest series of such patients reported to date.

Arachnoid cysts of the posterior fossa

Surgical Neurology, 1981
A series of 6 patients with arachnoid cysts of the posterior fossa who were treated surgically is presented. The diagnosis of the nature of the lesion and of the exact location within the posterior fossa could not be established on a clinical basis. CT scanning is the best method for diagnosing the lesion and for observing the postoperative evolution ...
