Engineering Ultra‐Low Fe or Ni Loading in Polymer Derived SiCN(O) Fibre Mats: Exploring the Performance towards Alkaline OER

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Polymer‐derived SiCN(O) fibre mats enable anchoring of ultra‐low amounts of transition metals for efficient alkaline oxygen evolution. The distinct behaviour of Fe‐ and Ni‐based fibres highlights the importance of metal phase and support interactions in tailoring catalytic behaviour.

Plant conversions and abatement technologies cannot prevent stranding of power plant assets in 2 °C scenarios

open access: yesNature Communications, 2022
Many existing and in-the-pipeline fossil-fuel power plants will have to be decommissioned or underused to avoid climate change beyond 2 °C, even under optimistic technology assumptions and after accounting for emission-reducing conversions.

A Perspective on the Applications of Triphasic Gas Storage in Electrochemical Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Gas storage in microporous materials positioned locally at an electrode or electrocatalyst surface enhances electrochemical processes. Abstract Microporous materials store gases under dry conditions (e.g., hydrogen or oxygen via physisorption), but in some cases microporous materials also show triphasic (e.g., in a solid|gas|liquid system) gas storage ...

Dynamic Etching‐Induced Cl‐Terminated Ti3C2Clx/Ti3ZnC2 Heterostructure for Ammonia Electrosynthesis and Zinc‐Nitrogen Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A stable Ti3C2Clx/Ti3ZnC2 heterostructure, fabricated by dynamic etching, exhibits outstanding electrocatalytic NRR activity (NH3 yield: 20.1 µg h−1 mg−1, FE: 38.1%) in alkaline media. The corresponding Zn‐N2 battery achieves a peak power density of 36.5 µW cm−2 and an NH3 yield of 13.1 µg h−1 mg−1, providing an advanced strategy for NH3 and ...

A worldwide analysis of stranded fossil fuel assets’ impact on power plants’ CO2 emissions

open access: yesNature Communications
Will power plants emit less or more CO2 in anticipation of stronger climate policies that would strand fossil fuel reserves? Here, using a worldwide data source on individual power plants’ CO2 emissions and the value of countries’ at-risk fossil fuel ...

ZrO2 Aerogel‐Supported Pd Nanoparticles for Photothermal CO2 Reduction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nanoparticle‐based aerogels are promising catalysts for photothermal reactions due to optical transparency, high surface area, and low thermal conductivity. Here, we present deposition of Pd nanoparticles on ZrO2 aerogel granules by a wet‐impregnation approach.
