Divergence time estimation using fossils as terminal taxa and the origins of Lissamphibia.

open access: yesSystematic Biology, 2011
Were molecular data available for extinct taxa, questions regarding the origins of many groups could be settled in short order. As this is not the case, various strategies have been proposed to combine paleontological and neontological data sets. The use

Harnessing Interfacial Cl− Ions for Concurrent Formate Production at Industrial Level via CO2 Reduction and Methanol Oxidation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The replacement of the anodic OER in CO2RR with energy‐saving methanol oxidation reaction and the creation of a favorable microenvironment through interfacial Cl− ions enable concurrent formate production at industrial‐level current densities. Abstract The efficient electrocatalytic conversion of CO2 to formate is often impeded by the high energy ...

Composition and Resulting Band Alignment at the TiO2/InP Heterointerface: A Fundamental Study Combining Photoemission Spectroscopy and Theory

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The chemical composition and band alignment are systematically investigated at the TiO2/InP heterointerface. Thin TiO2 films are deposited by ALD on atomically ordered, P‐terminated p‐InP(100). By combining UPS, XPS, and ab initio molecular dynamics, the atomistic structure and electronic alignment are revealed.

The late Miocene Phractocephalus catfish (Siluriformes: Pimelodidae) from Urumaco, Venezuela: additional specimens and reinterpretation as a distinct species

open access: yesNeotropical Ichthyology
Based on additional specimens the fossil pimelodid catfish from the upper Miocene Urumaco Formation, Falcón State, Venezuela originally assigned to the extant species Phractocephalus hemioliopterus is described as a new, extinct species. †Phractocephalus

Expected Anomalies in the Fossil Record [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The problem of intermediates in the fossil record has been frequently discussed ever since Darwin. The extent of `gaps' (missing transitional stages) has been used to argue against gradual evolution from a common ancestor.

Global history of the ancient monocot family Araceae inferred with models accounting for past continental positions and previous ranges based on fossils.

open access: yesNew Phytologist, 2012
The family Araceae (3790 species, 117 genera) has one of the oldest fossil records among angiosperms. Ecologically, members of this family range from free-floating aquatics (Pistia and Lemna) to tropical epiphytes.
