Polyurethane foam lightweight concrete: Preparation, CO2 fixation properties and mechanism

open access: yesJournal of CO2 Utilization
To enhance the carbon sequestration of concrete and the mechanical properties of polyurethane foam concrete (PFC), a novel formulation was developed using ordinary Portland cement, basalt stone powder, diphenylmethane diisocyanate, and polyether polyol ...

Soil-structure interaction analysis considering concrete creep and shrinkage

open access: yesRevista IBRACON de Estruturas e Materiais, 2018
The paper presents some results from Rosa’s [1] research that aimed to verify the effect of creep and shrinkage of the concrete in soil-structure interaction. The construction consists in a 17 storeys building.

Preparation and application conductive concrete from iron tailings to the teaching reform in engineering materials courses

open access: yesScientific Reports
The conversion of iron tailings, a mining solid waste, into conductive concrete aligns with green engineering and supports the development of intelligent construction materials. This study employed a four-factor, four-level orthogonal test to investigate

Frost resistance and micro mechanism of metakaolin and polypropylene fiber modified coastal cement soil

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
In order to investigate the effects of metakaolin and polypropylene (PP) fiber on the macroscopic mechanical properties and microscopic mechanisms of cement soil subjected to freeze-thaw cycles, a series of unconfined compressive strength (UCS) and ...

Transcripts enriched in codons that trigger P‐site tRNA‐mediated mRNA decay possess stable mRNA

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
PTMD codons were first described by Mendel et al. as mediators of an mRNA decay pathway dependent on the human protein CNOT3, homologous to yeast Not5. Our findings confirm that PTMD codons destabilize transcripts; however, unlike in yeast, the human pathway specifically targets and slightly destabilizes primarily stable mRNAs.

Short-term mechanical properties and microstructure of coastal cement soil modified by sugarcane bagasse ash

open access: yesResults in Engineering
Sugarcane bagasse ash is a kind of agricultural waste with a large quantity and good volcanic ash reactivity, it is necessary to find a way to reasonably utilize it to prevent environmental pollution caused by long-term accumulation.

How phagocytic cells kill bacteria: Lessons from a professional killer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
How phagocytic cells ingest and kill bacteria has been studied for more than a century, but many questions remain unanswered. The study of the amoeba Dictyostelium discoideum brings new answers, and new questions. Professional phagocytic cells such as neutrophils and macrophages, as well as free‐living soil amoebae like Dictyostelium discoideum, employ

Soil utilization of solid waste: Small-strain dynamic properties and microscopic mechanism of phosphogypsum-modified coastal cement soil

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
Phosphogypsum (PG), a solid waste from the wet process phosphoric acid industry, but the utilization rate is low at present. The effect of phosphogypsum and cement on small strain dynamic characteristics of coastal soft soil was studied by resonance ...

Seismic Resistance and Displacement Mechanism of the Concrete Footing

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2019
A realistic seismic simulation of the concrete footing has been made by using finite element method (FEM) software called ABAQUS. The effect of concrete footing embedment in soil on concrete footing-soil foundation interaction has numerically been ...
