Non‐destructive measurement of eggshell strength using NIR spectroscopy and explainable artificial intelligence

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Eggshell strength is crucial for ensuring high‐quality eggs, reducing breakage during handling, and meeting consumer expectations for freshness and integrity. Conventional methods of eggshell strength measurement are often destructive, time‐consuming and unsuitable for large‐scale applications.

Accurate prediction of olive‐sided flycatcher breeding status using song rate measured with autonomous recording units

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
We tested whether autonomous recording units (ARUs) could be used to predict breeding status from singing rates in a boreal songbird. We found that 79% of observed proportions of birds in each breeding status were within the 95% credible interval of model‐predicted proportions, suggesting that ARUs may provide an efficient tool to monitor avian ...

Transport and retention of microplastic fibers in streams are impacted by benthic algae, discharge, and substrate

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography, EarlyView.
Abstract Microplastics (particles < 5 mm) are pollutants of emerging concern in aquatic ecosystems worldwide. Streams are key sites of microplastic input, retention, and transport, and empirical measurements of microplastic movement in lotic ecosystems are needed to inform global microplastic budgets.

Coherence Awareness in Diffractive Neural Networks

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
It is demonstrated that spatial coherence significantly impacts all‐optical diffractive neural networks, unlike imaging systems. A general framework is proposed for training diffractive networks for any specified degree of spatial and temporal coherence. Coherence‐blind networks are further introduced, which are resilient to illumination changes. These

Deconvolution Techniques in Optical Coherence Tomography: Advancements, Challenges, and Future Prospects

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
This review explores deconvolution techniques in optical coherence tomography (OCT), addressing resolution degradation from point‐spread functions (PSF). It reviews foundational principles (e.g., Richardson‐Lucy deconvolution) to advanced AI‐driven methods, emphasizing clinical translation and interdisciplinary collaboration. Real‐world implementations
