Thermal-emission measurements near room temperature using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy [PDF]
Accurate characterization of thermal emitters can be challenging due to the presence of background thermal emission from components of the experimental setup and the surrounding environment. This is especially true for an emitter operating close to room temperature.

A Different Perspective on the Solid Lubrication Performance of Black Phosphorous: Friend or Foe?
Researchers investigate black phosphorous (BP) as a standalone solid lubricant coating through ball‐on‐disc linear‐reciprocating sliding experiments in dry conditions. Testing on different metals shows BP doesn't universally reduce friction and wear. However, it achieves 33% friction reduction on rougher iron surfaces and 23% wear reduction on aluminum.

Herein, silicon‐based nanoparticle coatings on X2CrNiMo17‐12‐2 metal powder are presented. The coating process scale, process parameters, nanoparticle size (65–200 nm) as well as the coating amount are discussed regarding powder properties. The surface roughness affects the flowability, while reflectance depends on the coating material and surface ...

Time-stretch infrared spectroscopy [PDF]
Improving spectral acquisition rate of broadband mid-infrared spectroscopy promises further advancements of molecular science and technology. Unlike the pump-probe spectroscopy that requires repeated measurements with different pump-probe delays, continuous spectroscopy running at a high spectral acquisition rate enables transient measurements of ...

Detection and Signal Processing for Near-Field Nanoscale Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy [PDF]
Researchers from a broad spectrum of scientific and engineering disciplines are increasingly using near-field infrared spectroscopic techniques to characterize materials nondestructively and with nanoscale spatial resolution. However, sub-optimal understanding of a technique's implementation can complicate data interpretation and even act as a barrier ...
