Reflexivity, embodiment, and ethics of care in rangeland political ecology: reflections of three feminist researchers on the experience of transdisciplinary knowledge co-production

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Dynamics, 2023
Although there is a growing interest in transdisciplinary knowledge co-production approaches applied to rangeland political ecology, the research paradigms and methodologies still dominating this field of research leave little room for equitable ...

Abstract Fractals

open access: yesThe interdisciplinary journal of Discontinuity, Nonlinearity, and Complexity, 2021
We develop a new definition of fractals which can be considered as an abstraction of the fractals determined through self-similarity. The definition is formulated through imposing conditions which are governed the relation between the subsets of a metric space to build a porous self-similar structure.

Fractal Calculus on Fractal Interpolation Functions [PDF]

open access: yesFractal and Fractional, 2021
In this paper, fractal calculus, which is called Fα-calculus, is reviewed. Fractal calculus is implemented on fractal interpolation functions and Weierstrass functions, which may be non-differentiable and non-integrable in the sense of ordinary calculus.

Heterogeneity in Vaccinal Immunity to SARS-CoV-2 Can Be Addressed by a Personalized Booster Strategy

open access: yesVaccines, 2023
SARS-CoV-2 vaccinations were initially shown to substantially reduce risk of severe disease and death. However, pharmacokinetic (PK) waning and rapid viral evolution degrade neutralizing antibody (nAb) binding titers, causing loss of vaccinal protection.

Betweenness Centrality of Fractal and Non-Fractal Scale-Free Model Networks and Tests on Real Networks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We study the betweenness centrality of fractal and non-fractal scale-free network models as well as real networks. We show that the correlation between degree and betweenness centrality $C$ of nodes is much weaker in fractal network models compared to ...

Individually optimal choices can be collectively disastrous in COVID-19 disease control

open access: yesBMC Public Health, 2021
Background The word ‘pandemic’ conjures dystopian images of bodies stacked in the streets and societies on the brink of collapse. Despite this frightening picture, denialism and noncompliance with public health measures are common in the historical ...

Closed Contour Fractal Dimension Estimation by the Fourier Transform [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This work proposes a novel technique for the numerical calculus of the fractal dimension of fractal objects which can be represented as a closed contour.

Fractal Pharmacokinetics [PDF]

open access: yesComputational and Mathematical Methods in Medicine, 2009
Pharmacokinetics (PK) has been traditionally dealt with under the homogeneity assumption. However, biological systems are nowadays comprehensively understood as being inherently fractal. Specifically, the microenvironments where drug molecules interact with membrane interfaces, metabolic enzymes or pharmacological receptors, are unanimously recognized ...

Evaluating social learning in participatory mapping of ecosystem services

open access: yesEcosystems and People, 2019
Recent studies have shown the opportunities and limitations of participatory mapping for ecosystem services management, although it is an incipient research area. One of the research questions yet to be addressed is whether the composition of stakeholder
