Probabilistic, Fractal, and Related Techniques for Analysis of Engineering Surfaces
In many engineering fields surface topography is of crucial importance solving problems of friction and other problems of tribology. A review of mathematical approaches for description of topography of engineering surfaces is presented.

We formulate the helicaliser, which replaces a given smooth curve by another curve that winds around it. In our analysis, we relate this formulation to the geometrical properties of the self-similar circular fractal (the discrete version of the curved ...

WHEN INVESTIGATING FRACTAL PHENOMENA, THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS ARE FUNDAMENTAL FOR THE APPLIED RESEARCHER: (1) What are essential statistical properties of 1/f noise? (2) Which estimators are available for measuring fractality? (3) Which measurement instruments are appropriate and how are they applied?

Designing Physical Unclonable Functions From Optically Active Materials
Assigning unforgeable “fingerprints” to manufactured goods is a key strategy to fight global counterfeiting. Optical physical unclonable functions (PUFs) are chemically generated random patterns of optically active materials serving as unique authenticators.

A Smooth Curve as a Fractal Under the Third Definition
It is commonly believed in the literature that smooth curves, such as circles, are not fractal, and only non-smooth curves, such as coastlines, are fractal.
