This book covers analysis on fractals, a developing area of mathematics which focuses on the dynamical aspects of fractals, such as heat diffusion on fractals and the vibration of a material with fractal structure. The book provides a self-contained introduction to the subject, starting from the basic geometry of self-similar sets and going on to ...

Fractals and fractal-like concepts in chemical analysis
TrAC Trends in Analytical Chemistry, 1990Abstract Fractal surfaces and fractal-like concepts are finding an increased interest in the physical sciences. This note briefly discusses two aspects of relevance to chemical analysis: (i) fractal surfaces and the immobilization of analytical re-agents, and (ii) fractal-like kinetics in continuous-flow systems.

In this chapter fractal dimension modeling in electrical discharge machining is discussed. Machining operations are carried out for different combinations of pulse current, pulse-on time and pulse-off time on mild steel, brass and tungsten carbide materials. The generated machined surfaces are measured to calculate fractal dimension.

From Fractal Urban Pattern Analysis to Fractal Urban Planning Concepts
2014Fractal geometry can be used to develop a multiscale approach to investigate the spatial organization of urban fabrics. First, the concepts behind fractal reference models are introduced so as to provide a better understanding of the results obtained from empirical analyses of urban patterns.
