The fractal analysis of water trees: an estimate of the fractal dimension
IEEE Transactions on Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation, 2001Water trees result from ac electrical aging of the polymeric insulation of medium and HV power cables in a humid or wet environment. As suggested by their name, they arise from penetration of water in the polymer. Visual observation with the help of an optical microscope shows tree (bush) type structures. This suggests that water trees might be fractal

Fractals, 1996
The concept of fractal form analysis is introduced, in which fractal metrication is defined for partial objects of fractals as a cmD or b mD with the fractal dimensionality D.

In this chapter fractal dimension modeling in electrical discharge machining is discussed. Machining operations are carried out for different combinations of pulse current, pulse-on time and pulse-off time on mild steel, brass and tungsten carbide materials. The generated machined surfaces are measured to calculate fractal dimension.

Fractals and fractal-like concepts in chemical analysis
TrAC Trends in Analytical Chemistry, 1990Abstract Fractal surfaces and fractal-like concepts are finding an increased interest in the physical sciences. This note briefly discusses two aspects of relevance to chemical analysis: (i) fractal surfaces and the immobilization of analytical re-agents, and (ii) fractal-like kinetics in continuous-flow systems.

Irregular objects are often modeled by fractals sets. In order to formulate partial differential equations on these nowhere differentiable sets the development of a “new analysis” is necessary. With the help of the model case of the Sierpinski gasket the definition of energy forms and Laplacians on self-similar finitely ramified fractals is explained ...
