Characterization of mesoscopic damage evolution in complex calcite vein-filled coal rocks [PDF]

open access: yesYouqicang pingjia yu kaifa
To investigate the failure characteristics of calcite veins with complex morphologies in coal rock under uniaxial compression, thin-section observation was used to examine the calcite vein filling within coal rock.

Effect of confining pressure on fracture characteristics and mineralogical behavior of tight sandstone specimens after hydraulic fracturing

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Hydraulic fracturing in tight sandstone and fracture propagation characteristics using backscattered electron‐scanning electron microscope (BSE‐SEM) images. Abstract This study focuses on hydraulic fracturing experiments conducted under triaxial conditions on tight sandstone specimens from Shivpuri district, Madhya Pradesh, India.

Hybrid 3D Fractal Coding with Neighbourhood Vector Quantisation

open access: yesEURASIP Journal on Advances in Signal Processing, 2004
A hybrid 3D compression scheme which combines fractal coding with neighbourhood vector quantisation for video and volume data is reported. While fractal coding exploits the redundancy present in different scales, neighbourhood vector quantisation, as a ...

Fractal image compression method

open access: yesEastern-European Journal of Enterprise Technologies, 2014
The fractal image compression method is investigated. Among various coding methods, it allows to get the highest compression ratios. The mathematical model is considered, and classical algorithm of image coding-decoding using the fractal method is presented. Its essence lies in searching self-similar image parts based on compression parameters.

Numerics and Fractals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Local iterated function systems are an important generalisation of the standard (global) iterated function systems (IFSs). For a particular class of mappings, their fixed points are the graphs of local fractal functions and these functions themselves are

Eden growth model for aggregation of charged particles

open access: yes, 1998
The stochastic Eden model of charged particles aggregation in two-dimensional systems is presented. This model is governed by two parameters: screening length of electrostatic interaction, $\lambda $, and short range attraction energy, $E$.

Optimization of cut‐hole layout under high in situ stress based on numerical simulation and field tests

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study investigates the blast‐induced rock damage patterns under different cut‐hole layouts and ground stress conditions through numerical simulations and field tests. The findings in this study provide valuable insights for similar underground engineering applications.

A reduced domain pool based on DCT for a fast fractal image encoding

open access: yesELCVIA Electronic Letters on Computer Vision and Image Analysis, 2011
Fractal image compression is time consuming due to the search of the matching between range and domain blocks. In order to improve this compression method, we propose firstly, in this paper, a fast method for reducing the computational complexity of ...
