Materials Engineering for Light‐Activated Gas Sensors: Insights, Advances, and Future Perspectives

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Light activation of gas sensors is a promising strategy for enabling power‐efficient operation in next‐generation smart devices, where a rational design of sensing layers can enhance light energy utilization. This review discusses design strategies for light‐activated gas sensors, including doping‐induced band structure tuning, plasmonic nanoparticle ...

Understanding the Fractal Dimensions of Urban Forms through Spatial Entropy

open access: yesEntropy, 2017
The spatial patterns and processes of cities can be described with various entropy functions. However, spatial entropy always depends on the scale of measurement, and it is difficult to find a characteristic value for it.

Fractal dimension of lightning discharge [PDF]

open access: yesNonlinear Processes in Geophysics, 1995
Abstract. Using a stochastic model, we simulate the process of dielectric breakdown in the atmosphere and calculate the fractal dimension of 3-dimensional lightning patterns. Finite-size effects have been studied. The projections of our patterns on vertical planes fit the experimental fractal dimension obtained from photographic analysis.

Responsive Polyelectrolyte Brushes in Applications: Functions, Stimuli, and Design Considerations

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
With advances in the synthesis of polyelectrolyte brushes, these coatings of surface‐grafted chains find uses in an increasing number of applications. This review summarizes three core aspects of these brushes: how they introduce functionality to surfaces; how external stimuli influence their properties; and what practical considerations should be ...

Multi‐Level Hybrid Anti‐Counterfeit Labels via Solid‐State Dewetting Under Spatial Confinement

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This study presents a hybrid encoding approach combining deterministic patterns fabricated by photolithography and stochastic features formed by the solid‐state dewetting of silver films under strong confinement at the micrometer and nanometer length scales.
