Impact of Shipping Emission Regulations on Atmospheric Vanadium Along U.S. North Atlantic Coast and Over the Western North Atlantic Ocean

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 10, 28 May 2026.
Abstract Ship emissions from high sulfur residual fuel oil (RFO) are a major source of air pollution in coastal and marine environments. Emissions include sulfur oxides as well as fine particulate matter (PM2.5) enriched in vanadium (V) and nickel (Ni).

Fluctuating Interfaces in Barotropic Beta‐Plane Turbulence

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 9, 16 May 2026.
Abstract Zonal jets manifest themselves as bands with sharp interfaces in the vorticity configuration. We develop an algorithm to track these fluctuating vorticity interfaces and systematically investigate their characteristic spatio‐temporal behaviors.

Overcoming Current Limitations in Triboelectric Nanogenerators via Passive Power Management and Zinc Telluride Material Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Energy and Sustainability Research, Volume 7, Issue 5, May 2026.
A ZnTe‐based triboelectric nanogenerator integrated with a passive Zener‐triggered silicon‐controlled rectifier power‐management circuit transforms high‐voltage, low‐current output into usable milliampere‐level pulses. The approach enables efficient energy transfer, accelerated capacitor charging, and reliable powering of practical low‐power ...

Controlling Dynamical Systems Into Unseen Target States Using Machine Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 8, Issue 5, May 2026.
Parameter‐aware next‐generation reservoir computing enables efficient, data‐driven control of dynamical systems across unseen target states and nonstationary transitions. The approach suppresses transient behavior while navigating system collapse scenarios with minimal training data—over an order of magnitude less than traditional methods.

Dental Microwear Texture Analysis of the Bornean Orangutans (Pongo pygmaeus) From the Selenka Collection

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Biological Anthropology, Volume 190, Issue 1, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Objectives Characterizing the diet of extant taxa is important not only to determine their ecological niche but also to serve as a reference for dietary and niche inferences in evolutionary studies. Tracking the diets of fossil taxa and their change through time has been increasingly employed to further understand the evolution of primates. In
