Water Permeates and Plasticizes Amorphous Carbon Dots: Unraveling the Inner Accessibility of the Nanoparticles by Glass Transition Studies

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The water permeability of amorphous carbon dots (CDs) is demonstrated by investigating their plasticization. Novel polyamide‐based and amorphous nanoparticles are synthesized by controlling their inner packing density. Water plasticization is evidenced by the decrease of the CDs glass transition temperature with increasing the hydration degree.

A general definition of the fractal derivative: Theory and applications

open access: yesAIMS Mathematics
In this paper, we introduce a general definition of the fractal derivative with respect to a function $ \psi $, in the context of the order $ 0 < \alpha\leq 1 $ and the function $ \psi(\Theta) $.

Fractal Texture Enhancement of Simulated Infrared Images Using a CNN-Based Neural Style Transfer Algorithm with a Histogram Matching Technique

open access: yesSensors, 2022
Here, we propose a CNN-based infrared image enhancement method to transform pseudo-realistic regions of simulation-based infrared images into real infrared texture. The proposed algorithm consists of the following three steps.

On‐Surface Synthesis of Bismuth Monolayers through Ice‐Confined Redox Reactions

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We report an ice‐confined growth strategy for the synthesis of atomically thin 2D bismuth and related 2D metals. This approach involves rapid freezing of a BiCl3 aqueous solution on an aluminum foil using liquid nitrogen, which triggers interfacial redox reactions between the ice and the aluminum surface.
