Generating irregular fractals based on iterated function systems

open access: yesAIMS Mathematics
The iterated function system (IFS) is important in different fields like image compression. An important feature of such systems is that they can be used to generate fractals.

Kinetically Arrested SERS‐Active Aggregates for Biosensing

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Three chemically benign components (AuNP, CB[7] and PEG‐SH) are employed to produce highly‐stable SERS‐active AuNP aggregates able to detect (bio)analytes at low concentrations in high salinity and protein‐containing media. Tunable disassembly is embedded in the AuNP aggregate design, which can be triggered by endogenous thiol‐containing compounds ...

Toward a new “Fractals-General Science”

open access: yesAlexandria Engineering Journal, 2014
A recent study has shown that everywhere real systems follow common “fractals-general stacking behavior” during their change pathways (or evolutionary life cycles).

Small-Angle Scattering from Polymeric Mass Fractals of Arbitrary Mass-Fractal Dimension

open access: yes, 1996
The Debye equation for polymer coils describes scattering from a polymer chain that displays Gaussian statistics. Such a chain is a mass fractal of dimension 2 as evidenced by a power-law decay of −2 in the scattering at intermediate q. At low q, near q ≃

On the Importance of Balancing the pKa of the Additive in β‐Ketoenamine COF Synthesis

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
β‐ketoenamine COFs are usually synthesized in the presence of acetic acid. Here, we report the surprising role of organobases TEA and DIPEA in achieving TpPa with high Brunauer‐Emmett‐Teller surface areas (>1400 m2/g) and high crystallinity. The similar pKa values of TEA and DIPEA (10.8 and 11.0, resp.) and Tp (10.8) mark the importance of balancing ...

Physics, Perception, and Physiological of Jackson Pollock's Fractals

open access: yesi-Perception, 2011
Fractals have experienced considerable success in quantifying the visual complexity exhibited by many natural patterns and have captured the imagination of scientists and artists alike.

Monitoring Nanostructural Dynamics During the Electrochemical Growth of Metal Hydroxide Thin Films by in‐situ Small‐Angle X‐Ray Scattering

open access: yesChemistry–Methods, EarlyView.
We present a custom‐built electrochemical flow cell for in‐house real‐time small‐angle X‐ray scattering (SAXS) experiments to monitor the electrocrystallization of nanoscale Co(OH)2 platelets tracking their growth from 7.8 nm to 15.7 nm thickness. Citrate ligands initially stabilize spherical structures, transitioning to platelet morphologies as the ...

Fractal dimension for fractal structures: A Hausdorff approach

open access: yesTopology and its Applications, 2012
This paper provides a new model to compute the fractal dimension of a subset on a generalized-fractal space. Recall that fractal structures are a perfect place where a new definition of fractal dimension can be given, so we perform a suitable discretization of the Hausdorff theory of fractal dimension.
