Photon Avalanching Nanoparticles: The Next Generation of Upconverting Nanomaterials?

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This Perspective outlines the mechanistic foundations that enable photon‐avalanche (PA) behavior in lanthanide nanomaterials and contrasts them with emerging application spaces and forward‐looking design strategies. By bridging threshold engineering, energy‐transfer dynamics, and materials engineering, we provide a coherent roadmap for advancing the ...

Disordered Carbon Shells Enable Shape Dependent Fluorescence Enhancement in Nanodiamond Quantum Sensors Revealed by Correlative TEM–Fluorescence Microscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Molten KNO2 treatment induces a lowrefractive index disordered carbon shell on fluorescent nanodiamonds, enhancing fluorescence emission while preserving spin coherence. Machine learningassisted correlative TEMPL enables direct single‐particle resolution of this enhancement relative to air‐oxidized nanodiamonds of similar morphology, establishing a ...

Receptor‐Free Identification of Toxic Gases Enabled by Hygroscopic Aqueous Salt Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Water as a gas sensor coating sounds impossible—until it stops evaporating. Here, hygroscopic salt solutions (LiCl, LiBr, H3PO4) form non‐drying aqueous films on CNT chemiresistors under ambient air. Gases partition into these liquid layers, sometimes transforming into water, and generate salt‐specific resistance fingerprints across a four‐channel ...

Online SOC Estimation of Supercapacitor Energy Storage System Based on Fractional-Order Model

IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 2023
Fast and accurate estimation of the state of charge (SOC) of supercapacitors is essential for the safe and reliable operation of energy storage systems. However, existing SOC estimation methods are based on the integer-order model of supercapacitors and ...

A fractional order friction model

ISA Transactions, 2023
A new dynamic model for friction is proposed based on the commonality between frictional order dynamics and friction behavior. The model can achieve accurate modeling both in the sliding and the pre-sliding region with fewer parameters. Simulation results of the FOFM are illustrated with the parameters identification using the particle swarm ...

A fractional-order model for MINMOD Millennium

Mathematical Biosciences, 2015
MINMOD Millennium has been widely used to estimate insulin sensitivity (SI) in glucose-insulin dynamics. In order to explain the rheological behavior of glucose-insulin we attempt to modify MINMOD Millennium with fractional-order differentiation of order α ∈ (0, 1].

Fractional-order modelling of epoxy resin

Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2020
This paper describes epoxy resins by means of electrical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and the mathematical tool of fractional calculus (FC). Two stages are considered: first, the EIS is used for testing the samples and, second, the measured data are approximated using integer and fractional order models.
