Contrasting drivers of phosphorus dynamics across soil aggregates: The role of nutrient enrichment and mowing

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Phosphorus (P) is an essential but often limiting nutrient for sustaining grassland ecosystem functions. Its soil dynamics are highly sensitive to land management practices and may vary across soil aggregate sizes due to differences in biotic and abiotic factors ...

Algebraic approach for enumerating fractional factorial designs

open access: yesJournal of the Japan Statistical Society, Japanese Issue
Summary: Constructing fractional factorial designs with given properties is one of important topics in design of experiments. In this paper, we give some results based on the technique of computational algebraic methods. For each fractional factorial design with given property, we characterize its polynomial indicator function and enumerate solutions ...

Optimising daily sampling of plant–bee interaction networks

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
Daily variation in ecological interaction networks is rarely quantified due to limited temporal sampling, yet network structure may change substantially within a single day. We show that plant–bee networks exhibit strong intraday shifts in composition and structure, and that sampling distributed across key daily periods better captures network ...

Cultural and Human Capital Signals in Hiring—A Factorial Survey Experiment Across Contexts

open access: yesThe British Journal of Sociology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT When evaluating candidates, hiring agents may draw on signals of human as well as cultural capital. While these processes have been considered separately, an open question is how the two types of signals interact. As signals of social class, cultural capital signals relate to human capital as they evoke stereotypes about competence, polish ...

Effect of the microbiome on pathogen susceptibility across four Drosophilidae species

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
Four Drosophilidae species were used to investigate how variation in the host microbiome influences susceptibility to infection. Microbial composition and abundance differed among species and treatments. The effects of microbiome manipulation on host survival were both species‐ and pathogen‐specific.

Charting the decline of the fourth wave: US overdose deaths by race, ethnicity and substance involvement

open access: yesAddiction, EarlyView.
Abstract Aims To characterize decreases in overdose death rates in the United States (US) between 2023 and 2024 by race/ethnicity, and substance involvement. Design Population‐based study of national death records accessed via the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Wide‐ranging ONline Data for Epidemiologic Research (WONDER) platform ...

Efficacy and safety of pharmacological interventions for the treatment of cocaine use disorder: A systematic review and network meta‐analysis

open access: yesAddiction, EarlyView.
Abstract Background and aims Cocaine use disorder (CUD) is an increasingly widespread concern worldwide. Various pharmacological treatments have been investigated for CUD, but their efficacy remains unclear, and none have been licensed for treatment.

Buyers' response to third‐party quality certification: Theory and evidence from Ethiopian wheat traders

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract When quality attributes of a product are not directly observable, third‐party certification (TPC) enables buyers to distinguish between quality levels and reward sellers accordingly. We study the adoption of TPC by traders in smallholder‐based agricultural value chains in low‐income countries, where traders aggregate products from many small ...
