Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Phosphorus (P) is an essential but often limiting nutrient for sustaining grassland ecosystem functions. Its soil dynamics are highly sensitive to land management practices and may vary across soil aggregate sizes due to differences in biotic and abiotic factors ...

Algebraic approach for enumerating fractional factorial designs
Summary: Constructing fractional factorial designs with given properties is one of important topics in design of experiments. In this paper, we give some results based on the technique of computational algebraic methods. For each fractional factorial design with given property, we characterize its polynomial indicator function and enumerate solutions ...

Optimising daily sampling of plant–bee interaction networks
Daily variation in ecological interaction networks is rarely quantified due to limited temporal sampling, yet network structure may change substantially within a single day. We show that plant–bee networks exhibit strong intraday shifts in composition and structure, and that sampling distributed across key daily periods better captures network ...

Cultural and Human Capital Signals in Hiring—A Factorial Survey Experiment Across Contexts
ABSTRACT When evaluating candidates, hiring agents may draw on signals of human as well as cultural capital. While these processes have been considered separately, an open question is how the two types of signals interact. As signals of social class, cultural capital signals relate to human capital as they evoke stereotypes about competence, polish ...

Effect of the microbiome on pathogen susceptibility across four Drosophilidae species
Four Drosophilidae species were used to investigate how variation in the host microbiome influences susceptibility to infection. Microbial composition and abundance differed among species and treatments. The effects of microbiome manipulation on host survival were both species‐ and pathogen‐specific.

Abstract When quality attributes of a product are not directly observable, third‐party certification (TPC) enables buyers to distinguish between quality levels and reward sellers accordingly. We study the adoption of TPC by traders in smallholder‐based agricultural value chains in low‐income countries, where traders aggregate products from many small ...
