Deep Learning‐Based Particle Tracking Velocimetry (PTV) for Spherical and Non‐Spherical Particles: Application to Sediment Transport

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 62, Issue 5, May 2026.
Abstract Particle‐resolved measurements in physical experiments are crucial to the study of sediment transport. Conventional particle tracking velocimetry (PTV) relies on template matching of simple shapes via intensity thresholding and nearest‐neighbor linking.

PFAS from a Discrete‐Event Terrestrial Source Migrates with Groundwater to Intertidal Seepages

open access: yesGroundwater, Volume 64, Issue 3, Page 323-334, May/June 2026.
PFAS is conveyed to the coastal intertidal zone from sources across the terrestrial landscape. Discharge of PFAS into the coastal ecosystem is complicated in space and time by the ongoing bi‐directional exchange of terrestrial groundwater and ocean water driven by tidal pumping within discharge areas.

Observing Systems Simulation Experiments of Hypothetical Hourly Global Coverage of Microwave Satellite Radiances: Imbalance and Adaptive Observation Error Inflation

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 8, 28 April 2026.
Abstract This study investigates the potential impacts of frequent global coverage of satellite microwave radiances using a global atmospheric data assimilation (DA) system. Observing Systems Simulation Experiments (OSSEs) were performed using the Local Ensemble Transform Kalman Filter with the Nonhydrostatic Icosahedral Atmospheric Model (NICAM ...

Multi-Source Fusion Monitoring of Global and Local Inclination in Historic Buildings Using EKF with Fractional-Order State Modeling

open access: yesBuildings
Historic buildings exhibit coupled response characteristics during long-term service, characterized by slowly varying global inclination evolution superimposed with local component-level deformation.

Simple Kalman filter alternative: the multi‐fractional order estimator

open access: yesIET Radar, Sonar & Navigation, 2013
This study is an extension of a presentation given at the 2012 Radar Conference in Glasgow, UK entitled: Simple Disambiguation of Orthogonal Projection in Kalman's Filter Derivation . It is shown therein that Kalman misunderstood and consequently misapplied orthogonal projection in his ...

Efficiency and Sensitivity Analysis of Observation Networks for Atmospheric Inverse Modelling with Emissions

open access: yes, 2015
The controllability of advection-diffusion systems, subject to uncertain initial values and emission rates, is estimated, given sparse and error affected observations of prognostic state variables.

Processing the Controllability of Control Systems with Distinct Fractional Derivatives via Kalman Filter and Gramian Matrix

open access: yesFractal and Fractional
In this paper, we investigate the controllability conditions of linear control systems involving distinct local fractional derivatives. Sufficient conditions for controllability using Kalman rank conditions and the Gramian matrix are presented.

Robust State Estimation of Power System Based on Unscented Kalman Filter with Fractional-Order Adaptive Generalized Cross Correlation Entropy

open access: yesMathematics
With the high penetration of power electronic devices, modern power systems exhibit complex fractional-order dynamic characteristics. Addressing this, along with the prevalent issues of multi-modal non-Gaussian noise, outliers, and sudden load changes, a

The Role of Inflation Persistence in the Inflation Process in the New EU Member States [PDF]

open access: yes
The aim of this paper is to compare inflation persistence between the New Member States (NMS) that joined the European Union in 2004 and 2007 and selected euro area members. If the levels of inflation persistence between the two groups are different, the
