Production and fate of macroalgal carbon in the ocean: How much do macroalgal organics matter?

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography Letters, EarlyView.
Abstract Global carbon sequestration by macroalgae is hypothesized to rival rates in other blue carbon ecosystems. However, quantifying macroalgal carbon sequestration is challenging as it is hypothesized to occur outside macroalgal ecosystems, with 73% of sequestration occurring when dissolved organic carbon (DOC) is exported to deep ocean waters.

Minimal Fractional Topological Insulator in Half-Filled Conjugate Moiré Chern Bands

open access: yesPhysical Review X
We propose a “minimal” fractional topological insulator (mFTI), motivated by the recent experimental report on the fractional quantum spin-Hall effect in a transition metal dichalcogenide moiré system.

Fractional quantum hall effect and vortex lattices [PDF]

open access: yesJETP Letters, 2008
It is demonstrated that all observed fractions at moderate Landau level fillings for the quantum Hall effect can be obtained without recourse to the phenomenological concept of composite fermions. The possibility to have the special topologically nontrivial many-electron wave functions is considered.

Tailoring Flatband Dispersion in Bilayer Moiré Photonic Crystals

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
The photonic dispersion in 1D moiré structures formed by stacking two photonic crystal slabs with slightly different periods is experimentally investigated. By precisely adjusting the filling factor of the photonic crystals, the evolution of moiré minibands into flatbands is experimentally and numerically demonstrated. This result provides a practical

Tunable Topological Directional Supercoupler and Applications in THz On‐Chip Communication

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
A topological directional supercoupler is demonstrated, enabling dual‐channel 50 Gbps on‐chip terahertz communication with phototunable power splitting ratios. The achieved sub‐wavelength scale coupling area, sharp waveguide bends, and momentum‐conserved coupling process allow for ultra‐compact and efficient terahertz topological photonic integrated ...

Fractional spin quantum Hall effect in weakly coupled spin chain arrays

open access: yesPhysical Review Research
Topological magnetic insulators host chiral gapless edge modes. In the presence of strong interaction effects, the spin of these modes may fractionalize.

Carrier Transport in Electrically‐Driven Photonic Crystal Membrane Lasers

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
A model to study carrier transport in photonic crystal lasers with a buried heterostructure active region and a lateral current injection scheme is presented. The model identifies unconventional leakage paths which explain low injection efficiencies and enhanced recombination at the p‐doping interface observed experimentally.
