Effect of substructure fabrication method and design on the fracture resistance properties of metal–ceramic restorations

open access: yesJournal of Prosthodontics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose In metal–ceramic restorations, the substructure fabrication method and design may affect the prognosis of the prosthesis. This study evaluated and compared the fracture resistance of metal–ceramic restorations fabricated with different substructure fabrication methods using two different alloy powders and designs.

Wood Sawdust as a Low‐Cost Filler in Whole‐Tire Reclaimed Rubber: Mechanical Characterization and Factory‐Scale Cost Analysis

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, Volume 143, Issue 41, November 5, 2026.
Whole‐tire reclaimed rubber is upgraded with wood sawdust, a carpentry by‐product available at no cost, across loadings from 0 to 20 wt%. At 5 wt%, tensile strength, elongation, hardness, viscosity, and water absorption all stay within commercial specification, and real factory data show an annual production saving near $62,000 with no capital ...

Influence of 3D Printing Parameters on ULTEM 9085 Mechanical Properties Using Explainable Machine Learning

open access: yesSPE Polymers, Volume 7, Issue 4, October 2026.
An explainable machine‐learning framework predicts complete stress–strain behavior and key mechanical properties of FFF‐printed ULTEM 9085 from four printing parameters. Extra Trees delivered the most accurate and stable predictions, while SHAP and LIME clarified how each parameter influences material performance.

Improving fatigue resistance of translucent 4Y‐PSZ zirconia through glass gradation

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Oral Sciences, Volume 134, Issue 5, October 2026.
Abstract To evaluate the effect of graded glass infiltration on the fatigue behavior and mechanical reliability of translucent 4Y‐PSZ zirconia before and after hydrothermal aging, disc‐shaped specimens were fabricated by uniaxial pressing and divided into control and glass‐graded groups (n = 36/group).

Microstructural and Fractographic Characterization of a Thermally Embrittled Nuclear Grade Steel: Part I - Annealing

open access: yesMaterials Research, 2002
A nuclear reactor pressure vessel steel was submitted to different annealing heat treatments aimed at simulating neutron irradiation damage. The obtained microstructures were mechanically tested with subsequent metallographic and fractographic ...

Fracture load and three‐dimensional internal void analysis of direct composites used to restore worn molars

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Oral Sciences, Volume 134, Issue 5, October 2026.
Abstract This study evaluated (1) the load‐bearing capacity of molars restored with direct occlusal veneers fabricated either from short‐fiber‐reinforced composite (SFRC) or particulate‐filled composite (PFC) and the presence of internal voids within the materials, and (2) effect of water storage on the fracture load and correlation between internal ...

AUTO-SHAPE ANALYSIS OF IMAGE TEXTURES IN FRACTOGRAPHY

open access: yesImage Analysis and Stereology, 2011
The aim of this study is to estimate the velocity of fatigue crack growth (crack growth rate - CGR) from the texture in SEM images of crack surfaces. A simple and quick method is based on fitting training images as a linear combination of several small ...

Microstructural Factors Governing Fracture Toughness in Lithium Silicate Dental Glass‐Ceramics Using Machine Learning

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, Volume 109, Issue 10, October 2026.
ABSTRACT The microstructure of lithium silicate‐based dental glass‐ceramics (LS‐DGCs) is highly complex, consisting of multiple crystalline phases with diverse morphologies embedded within a residual glass matrix. This microstructure, which evolves through compositional changes and thermal treatment, strongly influences fracture resistance. Due to this

Fatigue life of high strength steel for cold forming

open access: yesMetalurgija, 2017
The article presents the results of fatigue tests carried out on STRENX-type high-strength cold forming steel. For high-cycle fatigue tests carried out using low cycle loading frequencies of around 30 Hz, a ROTOFLEX machine was used. For ultra high-cycle
