Fractography of Weldments

Abstract This article provides an overview of fractography as it applies to metal weldments and presents examples of various fracture surface morphologies to demonstrate how fractographic analysis can be used to determine the cause of weld failures.

Fractography of Polymers

Abstract This article provides an overview of polymer fractography, with examples of various fracture surfaces created under diverse loading conditions. The focus is on the interpretation of polymer fracture-surface features in light of the unique viscoelastic nature of polymers.

Fractography in geology

Journal of the Geological Society, 1994
The first thematic meeting on fractography in geology, held on 13 September at Burlington House, London, was jointly sponsored by the Petroleum Group and the Tectonic Studies Group of the Geological Society. It was attended by 50 participants from Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Holland, Norway, Sweden, United Kingdom and the United States of ...

Fractography of Fiberglass

1994
This paper discusses the applications and the limitations of the fractography technique as applied to the fiberglass industry. The main limitation of fractography originates from the fact that fibers of strength greater than about 2000 MPa shatter into multiple small fragments upon fracture rendering it impossible to capture the true fracture surfaces.

Fractography of poly(methyl methacrylates)

Journal of Biomedical Materials Research, 1975
AbstractFor convenience in clinical manipulation, it is the practice to fabricate PMMA prostheses from mixtures of powder and monomer. When the monomer is subsequently polymerized an unusual 2‐phase polymeric material results in which grains of PMMA are dispersed in a matrix of the same polymer. The mechanical properties of the 2‐phase materials are ...

Fractography of a bis-GMA Resin

Journal of Dental Research, 1989
The fracture behavior of a bis-GMA resin was studied by means of the double-torsion test. The fracture parameter measured was the stress-intensity factor. Fracture occurred in either a stick-slip (unstable) or continuous (stable) manner, depending upon the test conditions.

Possibilities of Fractography

Metal Science and Heat Treatment, 2005
A brief characteristic of methods of observation, measurement, identification, and analysis of fractures is presented. Prospects of the use of the methods of fractography for solving problems of certification of materials, determining the structural mechanisms of fracture, and controlling the quality of metals are discussed.
