Spatial distribution of microstructure in Inconel 718 3D‐printed with bidirectional strategy with no rotation and chessboard strategy is studied. The former results in a highly ordered arrangement of coarse grains separated by line clusters of dislocation‐dense fine grains. This arrangement is disrupted by the chessboard strategy.

Non-symmetry of a hydraulic fracture due to the inhomogeneity of the reservoir [PDF]
It is usually assumed that hydraulic fracture has two symmetrical wings with respect to the fluid injection point. Hence, authors limit themselves to modelling of one half of the fracture. In our work we demonstrate that the case of a symmetrical fracture occurs only in a homogeneous reservoir with constant physical parameters and confining {\it in ...

This article introduces an automated approach for converting the raw research data (use case of low‐cycle‐fatigue testing dataset) to machine‐readable resource description framework ones and storing them in an open digital repository. As two main prerequisites for this data digitalization process, the development of fatigue testing ontology and ckan ...

Bridging Nature and Technology: A Perspective on Role of Machine Learning in Bioinspired Ceramics
Machine learning (ML) is revolutionizing the development of bioinspired ceramics. This article investigates how ML can be used to design new ceramic materials with exceptional performance, inspired by the structures found in nature. The research highlights how ML can predict material properties, optimize designs, and create advanced models to unlock a ...

Digital Methods for the Fatigue Assessment of Engineering Steels
The use of engineering steels is often limited by their fatigue strength. In the sake of a faster product development, the fatigue behavior can be predicted by machine learning (ML). In this work, ML is applied on a heterogeneous database, covering a wide range of steel types.

A Non-Local Model for Fracture Closure on Rough Fracture Faces and Asperities [PDF]
Fractures are ubiquitous in the subsurface. The flow and mechanical properties of these fractures are controlled by its compliance or stiffness. Characterizing fracture compliance is crucial in applications such as fault zone studies, underground CO2 sequestration, nuclear waste repositories and geothermal energy exploitation. In this study, we present

The scapula plays a critical role in the association between the upper extremity and the axial skeleton. Fractures of the scapula account for 0.4% to 1% of all fractures and have an annual incidence of approximately 10 per 100,000 inhabitants. Scapular fractures typically result from a high-energy blunt-force mechanism and are often associated with ...

Anomaly Detection Method for Hybrid Workpieces Using Dynamic Time Warping
Monitoring of hybrid workpieces: when machining hybrid workpieces, unavoidable axial deviations of the material transition zone cause temporal shifts in the process force signals. A new anomaly detection method based on dynamic time warping is proposed to detect material defects.
