Design and Application of a Miniature Pneumatic Bellows Loading Device for In-Situ Tensile Testing inside the Scanning Electron Microscope

open access: yesMetals
A miniature pneumatic bellows device was designed for in-situ testing inside the scanning electron microscope. The device uses a pneumatic actuator to load the specimen and displacement is directly monitored with a linear variable differential ...

Faster healing of radial neck fractures in children treated with the Metaizeau technique compared with percutaneous Kirschner wire fixation: a population-based study

open access: yesBMC Musculoskeletal Disorders
Background There is increasing experience in the treatment of radial neck fractures using the minimally invasive Metaizeau technique with retrograde elastic stable intramedullary nailing (ESIN) as an alternative to percutaneous Kirschner wire (K-wire ...

Scalable Robotic Laser Texturing of Tilted Microanchors for Direction‐Independent Metal–Polymer Joining

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A robot‐assisted laser processing method is proposed that enables the formation of surface‐tilted microanchors on metal substrates to improve metal–polymer joining. Using a six‐axis robotic platform, the laser beam's incidence angle, scanning path, and interline pitch can be precisely controlled, allowing the deliberate overlap of heat‐affected zones ...

Numerical Model and Experimental Validation of Composite Metal Foam in Protecting Carbon Steel Against Puncture

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The puncture prevention and energy absorption performance of composite metal foam (CMF) are studied experimentally and numerically for hazardous materials transportation protection. The numerical model implementing air within the CMF (nonhomogeneous model using fluid cavity technique) predicts puncture more accurately compared to the homogeneous CMF ...

Is Young's Modulus a Critical Coating Property Determining Fouling‐Release Performance of Marine Coatings?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The release of foulers from protective marine coatings is determined by several interrelated material properties, including the strength of Young's modulus, the flexibility of chain segments, the surface free energy, and the magnitude of hydrodynamic stress.

Development of SiC Nanocomposites Using Direct Ink Writing Process

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Herein, feedstock inks containing polycarbosilane and various concentrations of SiC nanoparticles (SiCnp) are investigated for fabricating ceramic matrix composites using a DIW 3D printing process. Characterization results from physical measurement, microstructure analysis, and thermal and flexural testing suggested that high‐performance CMC samples ...
