Rolando’s Fracture

Journal of Hand Surgery, 1991
The relationship between methods of treatment, quality of reduction and the occurrence of late disability and osteo-arthritic changes was studied in 17 Rolando’s fractures. Three were undisplaced, 14 were displaced: of these excellent reduction was achieved in five of 11 treated by open reduction and in none of the three treated by percutaneous K wire ...

Sacral fractures

Neurosurgery, 1984
Abstract The sacral spine has received relatively little attention in the orthopedic and neurosurgical literature, in part because of the infrequency of developmental, degenerative, or neoplastic conditions of the sacrum requiring surgical intervention.

Role of MRI in hip fractures, including stress fractures, occult fractures, avulsion fractures

European Journal of Radiology, 2012
MR imaging plays a vital role in the diagnosis and management of hip fractures in all age groups, in a large spectrum of patient groups spanning the elderly and sporting population. It allows a confident exclusion of fracture, differentiation of bony from soft tissue injury and an early confident detection of fractures.

Hybrid fracture and the transition from extension fracture to shear fracture

Nature, 2004
Fracture is a fundamental mechanism of material failure. Two basic types of brittle fractures are commonly observed in rock deformation experiments--extension (opening mode) fractures and shear fractures. For nearly half a century it has been hypothesized that extension and shear fractures represent end-members of a continuous spectrum of brittle ...

Fractures and Fracture-dislocations of the Neck of the Talus

The Journal of Trauma: Injury, Infection, and Critical Care, 1980
Forty fractures and fracture-dislocations of the neck of the talus are reviewed. Undisplaced fractures are associated with a high proportion of good results. Type II fractures, where there has been subluxation of the subtalar joint, require accurate reduction to avoid subtalar joint incongruity, and have a 20% incidence of avascular necrosis.

Fractures and Fracture Dislocations

1987
Since Callisen first described a central acetabular fracture in 1788,9 the optimal form of management has remained controversial. Admittedly, there is a consensus that a minimally displaced acetabular fracture without dislocation of the femoral head has an excellent prognosis when it is managed nonoperatively by bed rest or by a short period of ...

Fracture risk following an osteoporotic fracture

Osteoporosis International, 2003
The aim of this study was to examine the pattern of fracture risk following a prior fracture at the spine, shoulder or hip. We studied 1918 patients with fractures at these sites identified from the Department of Radiology in Malmo who were followed for 5 years.

Stress Fractures (Fatigue Fractures, Marsh-Fractures)

2009
In consequence of cyclic long-continued or oft-repeated stress like prolonged walking, dancing, or running, infraction or complete fracture can develop on certain sites of the skeleton. There is no specific single causative injury in the history, like in trauma-related fractures.

Fracture and Fracture Mechanics

1981
Griffith was the first to offer an explanation for brittle fracture. He postulated that in a brittle material, cracks propagate when the released strain energy is just sufficient to provide the surface energy for the creation of new surfaces. That is elastic strain energy per unit volume = σ2/2E, where σ = stress applied perpendicular to the crack, E =
