Finite element modelling of thin intermetallic compound layer fractures
A thin intermetallic compound (IMC) of solder ball joint induces strong stress concentration between the pad and solder where a crack propagated near the IMC layer.

A Gradient-Enhanced Damage Approach to Fracture [PDF]
A gradient-enhanced damage is formulated in which the Laplacian of the internal variable which memorises the damage enters the damage loading function in addition to the conventional dependence on this internal variable itself. The computational setting for this higher-order continuum model is fully elaborated.

Rock and soil damage-fracture space mechanics: Damage-fracture space [PDF]
Each of the current analytical methods used in rock and soil CT mechanics is “observation”, wasting the precious CT quantitative information. Utilizing the CT number, the perfect degree and the damage-fracture degree of a point inside the rock sample are defined, the λ level perfect field, the λ level damage-fracture field and the λ1-λ2 level ...

Statistical properties of fractures in damaged materials [PDF]
We introduce a model for the dynamics of mud cracking in the limit of of extremely thin layers. In this model the growth of fracture proceeds by selecting the part of the material with the smallest (quenched) breaking threshold. In addition, weakening affects the area of the sample neighbour to the crack.

Analysis of Tunnel Lining Failure Mechanism under the Action of Active Fault
The underground structure that crosses the active fault will cause more serious damage under the dislocation of the active fault. Relying on an actual tunnel in the southwest mountainous area to establish a three-dimensional finite element model, the ...

Rock and soil damage-fracture space mechanics: The divisional damage-fracture theory [PDF]
This article points out each of the current analytical methods used in CT mechanics of rock and soil avail of observation, wasting the precious quantitative information of CT datum. Based on the conception of the intercepted section in the damage-fracture space, utilizing the knowledge of the set theory, the measure theory and the Lebesgue integral ...
