Scaling Laws of Stress and Strain in Brittle Fracture
A numerical realization of an elastic beam lattice is used to obtain scaling exponents relevant to the extent of damage within the controlled, catastrophic and total regimes of mode-I brittle fracture.

Effect of Laser Deoxidation on Adhesive‐Bonded Aluminum in an Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere
This study investigates laser ablation of aluminum under oxygen‐free conditions. The goal is to produce oxide‐free substrates that enable improved adhesive bonding with epoxy. Optimized laser parameters (90% overlap, 300 µJ) combined with oxide‐free substrates result in the highest tensile strength of the adhesive bond.

ALE-based ductile damage and fracture [PDF]
Mixed methods have been used with success in finite strain elasto-plastic with damage for decades. The subsequent stage is now dealt with enrichment methods, either local such as SDA or global such as XFEM.

Four‐point bending tests are conducted in an argon atmosphere on commercial MgO‐C brick grades with and without MgO‐C recyclate from room temperature up to 1300 °C. No detrimental effect of the MgO‐C recyclates on bending strength is found. Instead, a decisive influence of the total carbon content is observed, with lower total carbon contents ...

Damage Characteristics and Parameter Sensitivity of Fracture Caverns Under Pneumatic Disturbances
In the construction process of abandoned mine compressed air energy storage projects, the presence and distribution of fractures within the rock mass significantly influence both the design and safe operation of the energy storage system.

This study investigates laser‐based oxide removal of Cu inserts in oxygen‐free conditions and examines long‐term oxidation kinetics and surface chemistry under different atmospheres via X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Al–Cu compound casting with differently oxidized surfaces is performed, and intermetallic phase formation, morphology, and thermal ...

A parametric study of fracture toughness of fibrous composite materials [PDF]
Impacts to fibrous composite laminates by objects with low velocities can break fibers giving crack-like damage. The damage may not extend completely through a thick laminate.

Analysis of damage and fracture mechanisms in ductile metals under non-proportional loading paths [PDF]
The paper discusses biaxial experiments and corresponding numerical simulations to analyze the effect of non-proportional loading paths on damage and fracture behavior of ductile metals.
