Effect of Fracture Conductivity on Effective Fracture Length

SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition, 2003
Abstract Fracturing fluid that remains in the fracture and formation after a hydraulic fracture treatment can decrease the productivity of a gas well by reducing the relative permeability to gas in the region invaded by this fluid. This fluid can block the gas flow into the fracture, thus reducing the effective fracture length.

A New Approach for Enhancing Fracture Conductivity

SPE Asia Pacific Oil and Gas Conference and Exhibition, 1998
Abstract A new liquid surface-modification system has been developed for coating proppant, dramatically increasing its surface friction and allowing it to interact instantaneously with surrounding particulates.

Thermal Conductivity of a Single Fracture

Transport in Porous Media, 1997
The macroscopic conductivity of fractures is determined for Gaussian and self-affine fractures by solving the three-dimensional Laplace equation. Results are discussed and compared with various analytical or two-dimensional approximations. They are shown to be in good agreement with some existing experimental data.

Fracture Conductivity Impairment Removal

Proceedings of SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition, 1989
Abstract Extensive and detailed research has been accomplished by previous investigators to characterize formation damage caused by various fracture fluid types. Using a simplified method developed specifically to study impairment removal, a body of comparative data was generated to show the tendency of dynamically-formed filter cakes to

Effect of Fracturing Fluids on Fracture Conductivity

Journal of Petroleum Technology, 1975
Several types of fracturing fluids were tested for potential adverse effects on fracture conductivity. A predictive method based on the volume of residue in a fluid after it degrades was developed that describes the local effect of fluid residue on fracture conductivity. Introduction Fracturing fluids

Effect Of Gelled Fracturing Fluids On The Conductivity Of Propped Fractures

Annual Technical Meeting, 1990
Abstract Successful stimulation of an oil or gas well by a hydraulic fracturing treatment is largely dependent on obtaining a propped fracture with adequate fracture conductivity. The fracture conductivity is influenced by the reservoir environment following a hydraulic fracturing treatment.

Experimental Study of Fracture Conductivity for Water-Fracturing and Conventional Fracturing Applications

SPE Journal, 2001
Summary Hydraulic fracturing treatments that use treated water and very low proppant concentrations (commonly referred to as water-fracturing treatments or "waterfracs") have been successful in stimulating low-permeability reservoirs. However, the mechanism by which these treatments provide sufficient conductivity is not well understood.

The Hydraulic Conductivity of a Shaped Fracture With Permeable Walls

Mechanics Research Communications, 2020
Abstract We investigate the flow-wise variation of the hydraulic conductivity inside a non-uniformly shaped fracture with permeable walls. Using lubrication theory for viscous flows, in conjunction with the Beavers–Joseph–Saffman boundary condition at the permeable walls, we obtain an analytical expression for the velocity profile, conductivity, and ...

Realistic Fracture Conductivities of Propped Hydraulic Fractures

SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition, 1993
ABSTRACT Preliminary results of an experimental programme to determine the significance of dual phase flow in propped fractures are presented. Gas-water flows are considered. The results demonstrate that, even in cases of minimal water production, effective permeabilities may typically be reduced by a factor of 2, or more.

Evaluation of Fracture Asymmetry of Finite-Conductivity Fractured Wells

Journal of Energy Resources Technology, 2010
Nearly all commercial hydraulic fracture design models are based on the assumption that a single fracture is initiated and propagated identically and symmetrically about the wellbore, i.e., the fracture growth and proppant transport occurs symmetrically with respect to the well.
