Thermodynamics and the griffith criterion for brittle fracture
International Journal of Solids and Structures, 1979Abstract The Griffith criterion for fracture, considered within the framework of nonlinear thermoelasticity, is shown to be a necessary condition for crack initiation, provided the underlying strain energy is properly interpreted, and provided the initial temperature is continuous at the crack tip.

Fracture criterion for inelastic solids

According to it the variation of dissipation plus the elastic energy rate per unit of crack growth has to reach the critical value. The path-independent integral of the 2nd type about crack-tip zone is given.

Two-parametrical fracture criterion
Strength of Materials, 2006We demonstrate that semi-brittle or semi-plastic solids require more comprehensive fracture interpretation, than brittle or plastic ones. Application of two-parametrical fracture criterions make it possible to solve this problem and to provide more reliable estimation of mechanical behavior of materials.
