Various criteria have been introduced for the determination of the conditions of initiation and the prediction of the propagation direction of a crack subjected to combined mode-I and mode-II in-plane deformations. First of all, Griffith [3] introduced a criterion based on physical consideration to determine the conditions to initiate the propagation ...

Criterion for Fracture of Plain Concrete
1983Concrete is a composite material consisting of aggregate inclusion and cement-paste matrix and the cracks which result from the interface between inclusion and matrix play an important role for the deformation and failure of plain concrete [1]. On the base of the observations of the physical and mechanical properties at the aggregate-paste interface ...

A Fracture Criterion for Cold Forming
Journal of Engineering Materials and Technology, 1973Fracture under combined stresses has been studied with the objective of evaluating existing fracture criteria and providing data for the formulation of new criteria. Upsetting, bending, rolling, and plane strain tests were used for the fracture study.

A fracture criterion for nuclear graphite
Journal of Nuclear Materials, 1982Abstract Measurements of tensile and flexural strength of a nuclear graphite using small bar specimens are reported. A theoretical model of failure is described in which critical defects are assumed to be associated with cleaved large coke particles.

Two-parametrical fracture criterion
Strength of Materials, 2006We demonstrate that semi-brittle or semi-plastic solids require more comprehensive fracture interpretation, than brittle or plastic ones. Application of two-parametrical fracture criterions make it possible to solve this problem and to provide more reliable estimation of mechanical behavior of materials.

Fracture criterion for inelastic solids
International Journal of Engineering Science, 1982Abstract The criterion of inelastic crack growth is found on the basis of the principle of the minimum energy dissipation. According to it the variation of dissipation plus the elastic energy rate per unit of crack growth has to reach the critical value. The path-independent integral of the 2nd type about crack-tip zone is given.

A note on the fracture-branching criterion
Philosophical Magazine A, 1979Abstract A proof of the criterion for fracture branching, based on energy-balance arguments, is shown to be invalid.

Fracture Criterion and the Life of Materials during Brittle Fracture
Russian Metallurgy (Metally), 2020A structural–statistical kinetic model is developed to describe the brittle fracture of materials at low stresses. Expressions are derived for the average life of a material at low stresses, and a kinetic meaning of the brittle fracture criterion is formulated.

A Fracture Criterion for Piezoelectric Material
2010A fracture criterion for piezoelectric ceramics is proposed which is based upon the energy release rate and two phase angles determined from the ratio between the intensity factors. It is assumed that the crack plane is at an angle to the poling direction within a symmetry plane of the body.

A Generalized von Mises Criterion for Yield and Fracture
Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1980Yield and fracture criteria for real materials are to a varying degree affected by a state of hydrostatic stress. Some materials, after certain deformation history, exhibit different yield point when the direction of the stress is reversed, a behavior known as the Bauschinger effect.
