A numerical–experimental framework is developed for characterizing multi‐matrix fiber‐reinforced polymers (MM‐FRPs) combining epoxy and polyurethane matrices. Harmonic bending tests are integrated with finite element model updating (FEMU) to simultaneously identify elastic and viscoelastic material parameters.

Fracture criterion for interface cracks in a tri-material adhesive joint
The initiation of a straight crack at the interface between dissimilar materials is considered. A modified maximum tangential stress (MMTS) criterion is presented to predict the conditions for the initiation of failure in initially straight bimaterial ...

Towards Defect Phase Diagrams: From Research Data Management to Automated Workflows
A research data management infrastructure is presented for the systematic integration of heterogeneous experimental and simulation data required for defect phase diagrams. The approach combines openBIS with a companion application for large‐object storage, automated metadata extraction, provenance tracking and federated data access, thereby supporting ...

This study examines how helicoidal architectures with different porosities respond to bending. Adjusting layer angle and spacing in 3D‐printed polymers reveals clear tradeoffs between stiffness, strength, and energy absorption. Experiments and simulations highlight designs that distribute stress effectively, offering pathways for optimizing lightweight

Spiral fracture in metallic glasses and its correlation with failure criterion
We report the observation of spiral fracture of the metallic glass Zr41Ti14Cu12.5Ni10Be22.5 (at.%) subjected to both shear and normal stresses. The spiral angle (that between the spiral line and the loading axis) increases as we gradually change the ...

Fundamentals of brittle fracture
S.1-19The basic findings explaining brittle fracture processes will be reviewed - starting with the necessity resulting from the difference in ultimate and technical strength to introduce flaw or crack concepts.

Fracture behaviour of zirconium alloy cylindrical tube with pellets under axial impact loading
A zirconium alloy cylindrical tube exhibited fracture under high-velocity axial impact load when high yield strength pellets were inserted as reported by Morishige et al., 2016. The fracture occurred after a crack was initiated at the tensile side of the

Building machine‐readable vocabularies for materials science is slow, expert‐driven work. This study benchmarks 13 large language models on two of its first steps: finding candidate terms in engineering articles and deciding where they belong in a class hierarchy.

A Lightweight Procedural Layer for Hybrid Experimental–Computational Workflows in Materials Science
We unveil a prototype hybrid‐workflow framework that fuses automatedcomputation with hands‐on experiments. Built atop pyiron, a lightweight, parameterized layer translates procedure descriptions into executable manual steps, syncing instrument settings, human interventions, and data capture in real‐time today.
