Determination of the bilinear stress-crack opening curve for normal- and high-strength concrete

open access: yes, 2008
An improved version of the method proposed to ACI committee 446 and to RILEM TC 187-SOC to determine the fracture parameters of concrete is applied in this study to several mixtures of normal and high-strength concretes.

Study on Surface Roughness and True Fracture Energy of Recycled Aggregate Concrete Using Fringe Projection Technology

open access: yesFractal and Fractional
This paper investigates the fracture surfaces and fracture performance of recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) using fringe projection technology. This non-contact, point-by-point, and full-field scanning technique allows precise measurement of RAC’s ...

Experimental Characterization of Mycelium‐Based Composites Under Multiple Loading Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines the mechanical response of mycelium‐based composites under compression, shear, and tension using mechanical testing and imaging methods. The comparison between unpressed and hot‐pressed specimens shows that hot pressing is associated with higher compression and shear stiffnesses.

Fracture analysis of steel fibre-reinforced concrete using Finite element method modeling

open access: yesFrontiers in Materials
Concrete has a great capacity to withstand compressive strength, but it is rather weak at resisting tensile stresses, which ultimately result in the formation of cracks in concrete buildings.

Compatibility of Methacrylate Based Resins Controls Interfacial Failure and Toughness in 3D‐Printed Multimaterial Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work shows that the mechanical performance of multimaterial digital light processing (DLP) printed thermoset composites is governed by resin compatibility and interfacial design rather than spatial patterning alone. Brittle and ductile resin combinations produced premature interfacial failure, while graded interfaces and mechanically compatible ...

Effect of sealed water curing and fiber length on compressive strength and fracture energy of fly ash-based geopolymer mortars

open access: yesJournal of Sustainable Construction Materials and Technologies
n this study, the effect of the curing method and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fiber inclusion on some engineering properties of fly ash-based geopolymer mortars was examined. In this context, six fly ash-based mortars were produced using sodium hydroxide and

Influence of Si Content and Milling Duration on the Microstructure and Mechanical–Tribological Properties of AlCoCrFeNiSi High‐Entropy Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Si‐doped AlCoCrFeNi high‐entropy alloys are synthesized by mechanical alloying to reveal the effect of Si content and milling time on phase evolution, microstructural refinement, and tribological behavior. A transition from FCC to BCC structure, significant grain refinement, and enhanced hardness and wear resistance are achieved, with the 4 at% Si ...

Fracture mechanics of plate debonding

open access: yes
The study has shown that the phenomena of plate debonding can be studied by means of a fracture-mechanics approach, which obviates the need for a finite element analysis which would have dubious validity in the presence of infinite stress concentrations ...

Microstructure, Thermal Transport, and Dry‐Sliding Tribology of Powder‐Metallurgy Al7075 Composites Reinforced With Sol–Gel‐Derived ZnO–rGO Hybrid Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Sol–gel‐derived ZnO–rGO hybrid nanoparticles enable Al7075 powder‐metallurgy composites to achieve concurrent gains in hardness and thermal conductivity while markedly lowering friction and wear. The hybrid architecture couples ZnO‐based load support with rGO‐assisted lamellar sliding and heat spreading, revealing a promising route toward lightweight ...
