Intramedullary Fixation of Distal Radius Fractures
The Journal of Hand Surgery, 2009Intramedullary fixation has recently received increased enthusiasm as an option for distal radius fracture fixation. Indications for this fracture fixation technique should be limited to predominately displaced extra-articular or simple intra-articular distal radius fractures. Intramedullary fixation permits limited soft tissue dissection and insertion

Metacarpal Fracture Fixation with Intramedullary Screws
The Journal of Hand Surgery (Asian-Pacific Volume)Background: Intramedullary screws (IMS) have become a viable option for metacarpal fracture fixation. To further appraise their utility, this study assessed clinical and patient-reported short- and medium-term outcomes of IMS fixation for extra-articular metacarpal fractures.

Flexible Intramedullary Fixation of Femoral Fractures
Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1988Fifty femoral fractures in 47 patients were treated by the insertion of flexible intramedullary Ender rods and observed until fracture healing was complete. Both condylocephalic and trochanteric approaches were used with a preference for the latter when biomechanically feasible.

Intramedullary Fixation of Fibular Fractures Associated With Pilon Fractures
Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma, 2010The purpose of this study was to determine the ability of intramedullary fibular fixation to maintain reduction until healing and to determine the overall complication rate in high-energy pilon fractures associated with fibular fractures.Retrospective study.Level I university trauma center. From 2000 to 2007, 972 pilon fractures were treated at our ...

Intramedullary Screw Fixation of Jones Fractures
The American Journal of Sports Medicine, 2002Treatment failures after screw fixation of Jones fractures are reported to be infrequent. Between 1993 and 1999, 15 patients (mean age, 21.7 years) underwent cannulated screw fixation of a Jones fracture at our institution. There were six treatment failures: four re-fractures and two symptomatic nonunions.

The Role of Intramedullary Fixation in Open Fractures
Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1986Intramedullary nailing of open fractures requires careful surgical judgment, consideration of alternative techniques, and the ability to use a number of different methods, including various designs with or without obligatory reaming. With good technique and well-selected indications, intramedullary nailing of open fractures may offer advantages not ...

Distal Radius Fracture Fixation with an Intramedullary Nail
Techniques in Hand & Upper Extremity Surgery, 2005The purpose of this article is to describe a novel technique and implant system for fixation of unstable (Arbeitsgemeinschat fur Osteosynthesesfragen Types A and B) distal radius fractures. Currently the most common complications directly related to distal radius plate fixation includes tenosynovitis, tendon attrition, and rupture, often necessitating ...

Intramedullary Screw Fixation for Simple Olecranon Fractures
JBJS Essential Surgical TechniquesBackground: Olecranon fractures are common injuries that often require surgical fixation to maintain elbow function. Nonoperative management of these injuries may be indicated in the elderly, as a recent randomized controlled trial found that 81% (9) of 11 operatively managed olecranon fractures in the elderly had complications
