Intramedullary Screw Fixation of Metacarpal Fractures Results in Excellent Functional Outcomes: A Literature Review

Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 2019
Background: Intramedullary fixation of a comminuted subcapital metacarpal fracture using a headless compression screw was first described in 2010.

INTERLOCKING INTRAMEDULLARY FIXATION OF HAND FRACTURES

Orthopedics, 1993
Abstract Reduction and stabilization can be especially difficult in treating comminuted hand fractures with bone loss or nonunion. Two cases are presented to illustrate a method of intramedullary fixation using an AO mini fragment reconstruction plate, which allows interlocking fixation proximally and distali).

COMPLICATIONS OF INTRAMEDULLARY FIXATION OF FRACTURES OF THE FEMUR

Archives of Surgery, 1951
A GROWING popularity for intramedullary treatment of femoral shaft fractures is indicated by the increasing number of medical articles and views on the subject in this country. While complications may occur, most are avoidable, and in spite of them, there is a real justification for this trend because the patient is returned to a physiological state ...

Femoral fracture fixation in developing countries: an evaluation of the Surgical Implant Generation Network (SIGN) intramedullary nail.

Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. American volume, 2011
BACKGROUND The Surgical Implant Generation Network (SIGN) intramedullary nailing system was designed to treat femoral fractures in developing countries where real-time imaging, power equipment, and fracture tables are often not available.

INTRAMEDULLARY FIXATION OF METACARPAL FRACTURES

Journal of the American Medical Association, 1957
• The treatment of fractures by inserting longitudinal intramedullary wires for fixation has been applied in 30 patients with metacarpal fractures. Local anesthesia was obtained for fractures of the fifth metacarpal (80 % of this series) by blocking the ulnar nerve, which is easily accessible at the elbow. Reduction is accomplished with direct pressure

Humeral Shaft Fracture Fixation: Incidence Rates and Complications as Reported by American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery Part II Candidates.

Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. American volume, 2016
BACKGROUND Despite extensive research regarding patient outcomes after operative fixation of humeral shaft fractures by means of open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) or intramedullary nailing (IMN), no current consensus exists regarding the ...

Intramedullary Fixation of Midshaft Clavicle Fractures

Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma, 2017
Summary: Clavicle fractures are among the most common fractures occurring in the general population, and the vast majority are localized in the midshaft portion of the bone. Management of midshaft clavicle fractures remains controversial. Although many can be managed nonoperatively, certain patient populations and fracture patterns, such as ...

Stable Fixation and Immediate Weight-Bearing After Combined Retrograde Intramedullary Nailing and Open Reduction Internal Fixation of Noncomminuted Distal Interprosthetic Femur Fractures

Journal of Orthopaedics and Trauma, 2018
Summary: With an aging population, treatment of interprosthetic femur fractures continues to pose a challenge to the orthopaedic surgeon. Retrograde intramedullary nailing combined with open reduction internal fixation using a tissue-preserving plating ...

Intramedullary Fixation of Distal Radius Fractures

Hand Clinics, 2010
Intramedullary fixation is the latest in a variety of techniques that have been developed to manage distal radius fractures. Intramedullary nailing of these fractures combines the soft-tissue advantages of a less invasive surgical approach with the biomechanical advantages of locking screw technology.

Intramedullary fixation for fractures of the hand

The Journal of Hand Surgery, 1981
Twenty-seven fractures in 22 patients were treated with an intramedullary rod, introduced through the fracture fragments, without violating the joint surfaces. Twenty-six fractures united. There was one nonunion and one migration of the pin into the joint; there were no infections.
