A Comparison of Locking Plates and Intramedullary Pinning for Fixation of Metacarpal Shaft Fractures

open access: yesHAND, 2018
Background: Metacarpal shaft fractures that necessitate surgery are frequently fixated with either intramedullary pins or plates and screws. This study compared outcome measurements of these two techniques.

A biomechanical investigation of a novel intramedullary nail used to salvage failed internal fixations in intertrochanteric fractures

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research, 2023
Purpose The ideal approach for revision surgery following femoral head salvage treatments for an intertrochanteric fracture is still up for debate.

Identification and Screening of Lactate‐Related Genes as Molecular Markers for Early Diagnosis of Steroid‐Induced Osteonecrosis of the Femoral Head

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 40, Issue 8, 30 April 2026.
Identification and validation of lactate‐related genes biomarkers for steroid‐induced osteonecrosis of the femoral head through integrated bioinformatics analysis, machine learning, and experimental verification. ABSTRACT Steroid‐induced osteonecrosis of the femoral head (SONFH) is a major cause of disability among young and middle‐aged adults. However,

Neuronal Cholesterol Deficiency Mediated by Astrocytic SREBP2 Downregulation Leads to Postoperative Cognitive Dysfunction Through Impairment of Hippocampal Synaptic Plasticity and Excitatory Synaptic Transmission

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 23, 23 April 2026.
The results showed that the reduction of plasma 24‐hydroxycholesterol (24‐OHC) was related to the cognitive decline in elderly surgical patients. Neuroinflammation induced by anesthesia and surgery significantly downregulated SREBP2 in hippocampal reactive astrocytes, resulting in reduced cholesterol synthesis.

Triple-Segmental Shaft Femur Fracture: A Case Report

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Case Reports
Introduction: Segmental femur fractures, an uncommon injury pattern, are usually caused by high-energy trauma such as road traffic accidents. Despite their complexity, early intervention is essential for maximising recovery and reducing complications ...

Elastic Intramedullary Nailing of a Medial Clavicle Fracture in a Pediatric Patient

open access: yesCase Reports in Orthopedics, 2017
Introduction. Injuries to the medial clavicle in pediatric patients typically involve the physis and/or sternoclavicular joint. Clavicle fractures are one of the most common injuries in children, but ones at its medial end are rare.

Intramedullary Fixation of Distal Fibula Fractures

open access: yesFoot & Ankle Orthopaedics, 2020
Category: Ankle; Trauma Introduction/Purpose: For unstable ankle fractures, surgeons typically employ the long-time standard of care; that is, open reduction and internal fixation with plate and screws.

Patterns of Discharge Analgesic Prescription in Hip Fracture Patients by Label of Cognitive Status: A Retrospective Pilot Study

open access: yesHealth Science Reports, Volume 9, Issue 4, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims Pain relief is known to be under‐prescribed in cognitively impaired patients. Though cognitive impairment (CI) may lead to lower reported pain at times, differences disappear at higher pain levels, where nociception is similar between groups. CI research also exhibits reduced placebo responsiveness in patients.
