Fracture evolution of a thick soft protection layer and the water inrush mechanism in overburden under longwall mining

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Through shear–tensile creep tests and viscoelastic modeling, the fracture evolution of thick soft protective layers is clarified. Results show thickness‐dependent rheological failure modes that govern four types of roof water inrush, providing a mechanism‐based framework for hazard prediction and control. Abstract In the Jurassic coal‐bearing strata of

Seismic Performance and Generalized Damage Risk of Modular Cross Laminated Timber Houses Across Ten United States Cities

open access: yesEarthquake Engineering &Structural Dynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Housing shortages in the United States and the pursuit of sustainable and resilient communities have positioned cross‐laminated timber (CLT) housing as a promising alternative due to the ability to design for modularity, ease of construction, and low embodied carbon performance.

Seismic Design of Concrete Dams: An Integrated Risk‐Informed Performance‐Based (RIPB) Framework

open access: yesEarthquake Engineering &Structural Dynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper advances the integration of risk‐informed principles into the seismic design of dams—a domain long guided by standards‐based, largely deterministic approaches. While performance‐based earthquake engineering is well established for buildings and bridges, its systematic adoption in dam engineering remains limited. We first address two

Research on the Mechanism of Sand Bridge Stuck Drill in Deep Coal and Rock Gas Horizontal Wells

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
Accounting for wellbore collapse debris and the bulldozer effect, this study develops models for permeable and impermeable sand bridge sticking in deep CBM horizontal wells, deriving resistance and volume formulations. Validated in Changqing, results show impermeable bridges dominate; controls (fluid optimization, staged drilling, circulation, speed ...
