International Journal of Oil, Gas and Coal Technology, 2015
A great portion of the world's oil reserves is contained in naturally fractured reservoirs (NFRs). As the conventional oil and gas reservoirs have become significantly depleted whereas energy demand sharply increases, the NFRs play an important role in oil exploration and make a large contribution toward oil and gas production worldwide.

Application of Photogrammetry in Geology: 3D Investigation of Rock Fracture Distributions
2006Geology as a science has an important visual component and the knowledge of any geologist is deeply linked to visual experience of rock outcrops, thin sections and analytical images. One of the shortcomings of most geological images such as maps, cross sections and outcrop photographs is that they are 2D, while processes geologists are interested in ...

Abstract Engineered completion designs consider reservoir quality (RQ) and completion quality (CQ) for horizontal well completion optimization. This is more effective than the geometric strategy that is sometimes used. However, both RQ and CQ are derived from the wellbore logs, which means the true geology and reservoir properties inside

Predicting hydrology of fractured rock masses from geology
2000Fracture network connectivity often dominates movement rate, flow volume, and mass transport through rock masses. These networks influence the effectiveness of petroleum reservoir development, safe disposal of nuclear waste, delineation of water supply or establishment of well-head protection plans, recovery from geothermal reservoirs, solution mining,

Abstract A geostatistical approach is used to analyze the spatial distribution of fracture density in shear zones. The methodology proposed is illustrated with data obtained from the mapping of drift walls at the Henderson mine in the Chibougamau mining district, Quebec.

Study of Geology-Engineering Integration Fracturing Design Based on Material Point Method
2021Due to terrestrial deposited, the tight-oil-reservoir in North Songliao Basin has strong heterogeneity. In view of this characteristic, this paper studied on geology-engineering integration based on material point method, and confirmed reasonable parameters and fracturing models, to increase the efficiency of volume fracturing.

The axial cleavage fracture 1 Axial cleavage fracturing, a significant process in mining and geology
Engineering Geology, 1965Abstract The attention is called to the systematic occurrence of fracturing in brittle rock parallel to the major load axis at triaxial differential compressive loading. The axial fracture plane shows the features of the tensile brittle ( cleavage) fracture; this circumstance has led to the nomenclature “axial cleavage fracture”.

Behaviour of fractures in hard rocks — A study by surface geology and radial VES method
Geoexploration, 1983Abstract In hard rock terrain the exploration of groundwater is essentially the detection of thick weathered residuum or of zones of intense jointing and fracturing and hence is extremely complex. The present study incorporates the radial vertical electrical sounding (VES) method in understanding the behaviour of rock fracturing at shallow depths in ...
