Modeling of mixed-mechanism stimulation for the enhancement of geothermal reservoirs [PDF]
Hydraulic stimulation is a critical process for increasing the permeability of fractured geothermal reservoirs. This technique relies on coupled hydromechanical processes induced by reservoir stimulation through pressurized fluid injection into the rock formation.

The effect of multiāleaf collimator leaf width on VMAT treatment plan quality
Abstract Background The advent of volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) in radiotherapy has made it one of the most commonly used techniques in clinical practice. VMAT is the delivery of intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) while the gantry is in motion, and existing literature has shown it has decreased treatment delivery times and the ...

Axisymmetric displacement flows in fluid-driven fractures [PDF]
Displacement flows are common in hydraulic fracturing, as fracking fluids of different composition are injected sequentially in the fracture. The injection of an immiscible fluid at the center of a liquid-filled fracture results in the growth of the fracture and the outward displacement of the interface between the two liquids. We study the dynamics of

A solvable model of fracture with power-law distribution of fragment sizes [PDF]
The present paper describes a stochastic model of fracture, whose fragment size distribution can be calculated analytically as a power-law-like distribution. The model is basically cascade fracture, but incorporates the effect that each fragment in each stage of cascade ceases fracture with a certain probability.

The principles of linear elastic fracture mechanics (LEFM) were developed in the 1950s by George Irwin (1957). This work was based on previous investigations of Griffith (1920) and Orowan (1944). Irwin (1957) demonstrated that a crack shape in a particular location with respect to the loading geometry had a stress intensity associated with it.

Crack propagation modeling of strengthening reinforced concrete deep beams with CFRP plates
Fracture analysis of reinforced concrete deep beam strengthened with carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) plates was carried out. The present research aimed to discover whether crack propagation in a strengthened deep beam follows linear elastic ...
